"C:\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\et.exe" +r_mode "-1" +r_customwidth "1920" +r_customheight "1080" +set com_hunkmegs "1024" +set com_soundmegs "128" +set com_zonemegs "128" +seta com_maxfps "144" +vid_restart

Have this is the command perimeter start line. Changed com_hunkmegs to "1024" haven't had a crash since. For those still timing out/having server probs may try this out.

If you are dropped from a server for any reason, you might want to restart the mod before trying to reconnect.  Connecting to another server and then returning to the first server seems to do the same thing.  Restarting the mod is quicker, though.

@Leatherface and I were discussing all the "timed out 4"s that we had been seeing [on Jay#1], especially when a new map starts.  That 'new thing' might be because players had disconnected from the server at a time when the server "did not get the disconnecting message" and 'thinks' that the connection was dropped by the Players' systems.

So I did seta r_displayRefresh to 144 (which is my current screen hz) haven't been disconnected yet, we shall see. Maybe try setting this to your current monitor hz.

So I've tested and tested different theory's I've come to find out that running ET in windowed mode I do not get disconnected. When running ET in fullscreen is what is causing my game to crash. Can PLEASE someone help me.

Had this error when I connected earlier, can anyone tell me what this might mean? Looks like server side?

Still at a loss. Any feedback or something for me to try would be greatly appreciated! Just want to play a full map without crashing. Sometimes I am lucky enough to get one here or there. Most times cant play more than 2-3 mins as mentioned before. I NEED HELP.

Re-applying thermal paste to my gpu has fixed it. I opened it up and the gpu was bare, thermal paste was around the edges and all dried up

Could this be my problem?!?!?!

I don't think so. I don't think GPU has any direct co-relation with connecting to server. If you tell me your game was shutting down, then yes.

Very true. COD Warzone does run fine. I'd have issues with that as well I'd assume.

Ok, so I'm now curious since I am not the only one who has had this problem, and I thought it was server side. I found this...

I’m no expert, and someone else will be able to set you up, but it seems to me your pk3 file is either missing or corrupted. Try reinstalling from scratch.

Can someone also please tell me the command to delete pk3 files after every map? Going with that, is there ANY chance it is server side? That a pk3 file from servers are causing me to crash? Also this logfile....

If it was server side then everyone would have the issue. I'm not sure it's anything related to pk3s.

I would say It's a network problem though my network knowledge is barely existent

As for the error message, here's the relevant code from the ET source github:

void CL_CheckTimeout( void ) {
	//
	// check timeout
	//
	if ( ( !cl_paused->integer || !sv_paused->integer )
		 && cls.state >= CA_CONNECTED && cls.state != CA_CINEMATIC
		 && cls.realtime - clc.lastPacketTime > cl_timeout->value * 1000 ) {
		if ( ++cl.timeoutcount > 5 ) {    // timeoutcount saves debugger
			Cvar_Set( "com_errorMessage", "Server connection timed out." );
			CL_Disconnect( qtrue );
			return;
		}
	} else {
		cl.timeoutcount = 0;
	}
}

Looks like you're not sending packets often enough so the server drops you. What you can do with this info, I have no idea 😄

I would mess around with router, firewall and antivirus settings but then again I'm an idiot so probably don't take that advice 🤣

Try plugging your router into another socket or getting a UPS or line conditioner.  Tiny fluctuations in current really screw up routers and cause connection issues.

You could also ask for a replacement modem.  I've been supplied with bad ones in the past.  Sometimes ISP's update things on their end and that don't work with certain modems they supply.

Also reset your router to default settings.

Maybe dl ET from another link.

Disable all anti virus's, defenders, firewalls, etc.

Reinstall or try different network drivers.  Windows updates can screw things up for certain hw.

Try raising your hunk and zone megs.

I didn't read through this whole topic so I'm just throwing a few things in.  Sorry if they're already things you've tried.

Not sure if it's your case n maybe someone else have posted this tip but there is one thing some doesn't know about.

Bluetooth causes interference to WiFi signal. If you play with Bluetooth devices connected and using WiFi instead of Ethernet - be prepared for lags and discons

Tried deleting everything off of pc with a restore/fresh start. fresh dl of et and fresh install of windows, et still crashes.

Tried new mouse, did not work.

Removed all sticks of RAM other than 1, still crashed.

Tried multiple different cfg's, still crashed.

Crashes happen on every mod, every server, within just a few minutes of joining. At a complete loss here.
