So a few days ago I had finally felt like I could make a full time return a reality. For those who don't know, the 3rd of April I had a massive heart attack, and then on the 5th, I had a Quadruple Bypass surgery.  Anyway for almost a month walking sitting all that was a chore. But in the past week or so I have been released to drive and have been feeling so much better.  With all this good stuff happening, I had decided that this week would make for a good time for me to return spamming/working/helping with FA on the forums and servers.

So a couple days ago I was out, I came home and hit the power button on my PC, while it started up and got me some grub, when I came back to my desk and looked at my screen, it was covered in artifacts.  Try as I might, I could not fix the issue which happened to be my video card.

I got frustrated at the aspect of buying a new one, but as you all know and understand, going without my pc/games and my FAmily, I would lose my mind haha.

Anyway, I go to the closet to grab a shirt so I could go out and see what I could come up with, and while looking I found a video card I previously had. It was a gtx 550 ti, not exactly new but a great 2 gig card.

So I opened up my pc and got to it.  I actually had to replace the power supply in the pc I have now since it was a 300w and the card required a 400w. Thankfully I still had that also from the other pc I used with the card. I got everything replaced, and was excited to get my return to online life on its way. Well I booted up, and to my surprise still got the same mess.

After a whole day of getting nowhere, I went to bed, mad, and feeling defeated.

I was at a loss for how to fix this issue. I am no expert, but am usually able to fix most any pc issue. I get online and search my issue with my phone, and read many possible reasons for my issue, but nothing was helping.  And at the moment of giving up I remembered a day or two before this we had our power go out here for a short period of time, but before the power went out, we had a thing called a brown out, and according to the inet it is when voltage in the power grid is dropped sometimes even intentionally to reduce power loads.  Well at that time my pc was on, and it only happened for a few minutes, and I had even turned my pc off after I realized what was happening.

So after more figuring and searching, I found out that these brown outs reduce the voltage on everything in your home plugged in.  Well turns out the low voltage wreaked havoc on not just the video card, but the mb also.  So I had a whole new issue, I had to not only replace the video card, but had to replace the mb also.  So after digging through all my pc junk again, I found the other mb that I had used with the gtx card.

So I sat down took it all apart, replaced the mb, the video card and so on.  I got it all put together, and hit the power button.  I finally got it to boot, but it wasn't booting into windows.  So I figured maybe the HDD had suffered through this too.  I put in a different HDD, which I had to install windows on, I didn't have a copy of win8 for this drive, but I did have win7.

So I re-installed windows, and boom, I finally booted back up.. I tried to hook the bad drive up as a secondary and salvage all my stuff, but it was a no go. the old HDD was out.

Well to finish up this long story that most of you will not read or finish, I am back with a working PC, but have lost everything that I have, and have been spending the past day trying to re-download or re-install all of my stuff.

So to finish up, I am back now, but I really had to work for it lol..

That being said, prepare for spam, I am back :D

Another sad pc story!  You were more fixable than your computer!

I suggest getting a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).  Mine gives a beep or two every once in a while, which I assume is a power fluctuation.  Mine is 1200VA.

Got ninja'd. :D I've used a UPS, and stayed loyal to APC for at least 4-6 years now... which reminds me that I need to test the battery in mine.

I know some people who swear by CyberPower for their UPS systems, but I've seen more of those fail than APC units. I guess it's a tossup, really.

UPS is helpful, I should look more into it, especially with ability to defend against thunderstorm. Though I wonder if mb and PSU didn´t have UVP\UCP? Also I can´t quite understand how undervoltage can damage anything, turn off PC that yes.

Good you have figured it out and are back in action.

Wow, braver than me, what I know about how computers work you can write in one sentence, so I'd do one of two things 1) take PC to work and talk nicely to the Techy guys or 2) go to the stop and buy a new one xD
