Here is a video about people appearing from thin air:


On some days this happens frequently, on other days only the hitbox is off. The same happens on every server even with ET Legacy.

I have this exact same problem 😕 I thought it was just me so I never really bothered looking into it. I'm playing on wireless so I figured it had something to do with that. Also the TCP optimiser may be worth looking into.

Both of these are set to 1 for me and by default. Don't think this is the cause.

Game uses UDP, so TCP wouldn't help.

In Quake3 it is normally used for offline bot practice by using a positive value that is the same as average ping. However, a positive value can also be used to stabilize displayed frames with gameworld updates(snaps) and negative values are reported to adjust client side prediction.

 

We strongly suggest you leave cl_timenudge at 0 for online play. However If you do wish to alter cl_timenudge to adjust client side prediction then try a negative value that is 25% to 50% of your average ping. Example if you are currently pinging 100 to the server then experiment with a setting between -25 to -50 as your cl_timenudge value. Note that if you are using a negative value for cl_timenudge the top graph in cg_lagometer may be mostly yellow.

 

A positive value may help if you have problems with gameworld updates (snaps) not being rendered in time. Try a small positive cl_timenudge value of 5,10,15 or 20 never higher. See cg_lagometer for an explanation of how to determine if gameworld updates are not being rendered in time.

 

My understanding of networks is absolutely awful 😅.

I'll test timenudge 10 and see if the issue goes away.

I'll try these, they are zero currently.
 

As of the lag, somebody just wrote on a different forum, that it is region dependent and it is like sending everything in a mega packet instead of many small packets, so maybe it is a network problem indeed. At least that would explain it for me, that I am out of sync with the server for 1-300 msec and after that I suddenly die or people, sounds, hits, etc. suddenly show up.

i messed with timnudge a bunch ... dont think its ur problem. i have it too ..lol ive found  if i play with certain people it does it but doesnt do it to all. i chalked it up to them not me.lol shatter is worst one for me. he teleports all around  . and isnt in every frame. optimized prediction  setting to 0 helped a bit. me an xern worked to gether on this few yrs back. i had to go thru like 4 or 5 diff gpu drivers till i found a decent one.

I doubt that changing settings will do anything about this, but I'll still try. The cg_predictitems won't do much about it. The cg_optimizeprediction might have some effect, who knows.

ye sorry i didnt read the entire thread before i posted i only looked at the last couple of posts it seems you have a completely different problem 

look into what DD suggested and check out the video card settings try dif settings for draw frames in advance - run in performance mode - maybe try an updated driver or roll back to an older one change 1 or 2 things at a time then test so u can revert easily if it dosnt help

 i notice in your et cfg u are using cl_packetdup set to 5        try 1 or 0 this will reduce packet size it may help a little
