Is this game on his final days?

To keep it short,

I am worried about this game uncertain future, game tracker's server list shows that only 3 -5 servers have from 10 to 20 players regularly and the rest are pretty much have less than 5 people or empty. Things are not just the way they where before.

It's hard for new players to get into this game, the fact they have to  research the Internet just to realize they need an ETkey in order to play it's one reason that people don't bother even trying.

So yeah, what if this game could be downloaded from steam? Would this give a boost to the community?

or what if this could follow quake live footsteps (Wolf : Live, ET Live , etc.)

Closest thing we have is the new wolfenstein game coming out. I hope I am wrong on this though.

Hey,

Yeah steam would boost this games numbers by alot but I don't think that's going to happen, Have you guys heard about Extraction? http://extraction.nexon.net/

Its made by the same people that made ET, it seems promising, the only thing I dislike is the modern style, I prefer WWII, it has all the team play elements that make ET the best.

Here ill add a video of some game play.

If ET was available on Steam, I would suspect a temporary increase in player base, but since it's an old game, the player base will drop somewhat down to its original amount.

I'm going to be participating in an Extraction beta test tomorrow, I'll let you know what I think of it. I'll take a video capture if I can... though I don't want my beta testing privileges revoked.

Also, I see about 20 servers that have regular players, and that's other than =F|A='s. Gametracker is beyond unreliable, try TrackBase. ;)

i love et and wish i had found it when it came out, i only discovered it in 2013. when it came out i was playing bf2 on friends pcs, didn't have a computer of my own. i found et because my computer sucks and i was wishing i could play bf2 and searched around for a multiplayer fps that my pc could run, and et was perfect because i also love the ww2 setting.

managed to get one friend into it but that was only with handholding on the install, most people don't like having to mess around so much just to play a game. etlegacy shows promise because their installer does everything for you as far as etkey and resolution detection, but can still be a pain in some ways, plus it's even less known than et 2.6.

i'm with you, i hope more people get into it, but it's limiting because it's not easy to install or get running properly. i'm not really sure how to attract people to play, being on steam would probably be great.

i'm pumped about extraction/dirty bomb, and hope i have a better computer by the time it comes out, and that there will be FA servers! :)

You want to say theres invented a cure against ETdiction?

And there have been successors failing more or less like Brink with high price and boring gameplay and ET:Quake Wars

I wonder what happened to QW? Is there any players left? I remembe trying demo and then just forgot about it:P Probably it was about the price again...

It's ETs cartoonish style I love...its simplicity.the Atari of multiplayers.I've thought for a long time that some consolidation is needed...I just don't know how some people play with bots constantly.to me it's better to move on.you can still be friends on someone else's server.anyway..ETs unique..let's hope that's enough

yeah sadly seems like people are moving away from ET to other games like CSGO...i remember there used to be so many favorite servers of mines always full and having to wait to join...some of them have disappeared and now the ones that are still around are mostly empty. <3 HC till the bitter end!

Even 5 or 6 years ago players were stating that ET is dying a slow death, so this is nothing new. Sure it may not attract many newer players because of it's WW2 based format since most new FPS players want that realistic action somewhere in the middle-east with that 'Desert Storm' appeal.

Truth is there will always be diehard fans of this game; those players that became addicted to its simplicity and ability to tweak game-play while playing with and against other players from around the world and the friendships created from it. Plus, being 'free' made it available to anyone and everyone.

ET won't die. It may get thinned out with fewer players, but it won't die completely.

Having said that and even though I enjoy ET immensely, that Extraction vid looks awesome imo.

Why Extraction ? Why no one will produce ET2 !? :cry

or at least put multiplayer in the new wolfenstein game. :(

i guess i could see why no one would want to revisit, remake, or even make a sequel. it would be too hard to make it any better than it already is, it's such a beautiful and perfect game in so many ways.

You guys obviously have no idea about what extraction is. I can't really talk about it because I signed an NDA, but it's the spiritual successor to ET. Many things are the same:

  1. It's free
  2. It's strictly multiplayer
  3. you can host your own server(s)
  4. there are classes such as Medic, Covert Ops, Engineer, only there's several classes of each class
  5. You can make your own maps
  6. There are stopwatch modes, deathmatch modes, and objective modes

So yes, the "New Wolfenstein" aka Extraction will have multiplayer in it. Forget about "The New Order" though, it's not even by the same studio.
