I have a feeling that most of europe was on Obamas "side" :) atleast now when its confirmed they made a poll on a big news site here in finland and 94% said they liked that obama won :)

Is it possible to understand republican logic, being European?

Assuming there is a difference between understanding and agreeing, yes, very easily. Note, those who think these are the same are those who doesn't believe in "Agree to disagree" and I never ever want to have a discussion with those :P

Basically, you get what you deserve. If you work hard, you get the money you deserve. If you don't work, well, you don't get money. That keeps people working their entire life, working for what they need and keeps them motivated. There are many people in the Netherlands (Europe?) who think, "well, I can't find a job, let's work a bit less and the government will keep me alive". Not having that thought is part of the American dream, if you work hard enough you get everything you can dream off. Which is not really true in the Netherlands (Europe?), because if you make >1M/year, you pay a lot of taxes to keep alive those who don't. So you pay for the bureaucracy, policy, roads, things like that. Not for money for education, healthcare, things part of the social system in many 'rich' countries in Europe.

Where *you* draw that line between republic / capitalistic and left / communism is what *you* want, what is best for the country.

I personally think that denying healthcare isn't good for the country. I also think that paying 50% taxes isn't good for the country. I think that having no investment in education, such that everyone (even with poor parents) can have the education they can achieve isn't good for the country. I think that giving too much money to those without a job isn't good for the country.

Somewhere you have to draw a line in what is best, or at least what you think is best. People who vote/voted for Romney have a different point of view to those who vote for Obama. Can you blame them? Well, in too much countries you get shot to death when you disagree with the political point of view of the leader. I don't like democracy, but to quote Churchill: "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.". If everyone (or >50%) agrees your opinion is stupid, face it. They think it is best for the country to do something different than you, and they are with more. Of course, eliminate all people who don't agree with you from voting rights solves a lot of problems, but includes a new one :P

So they want to keep the American dream, and somewhere I get that. It would be awesome that if you make 10M/year you indeed get approx 10M/year. I just don't agree on what you have to (imho) sacrifice to keep that.

how would you figure that? and if so, Obama didn't fix it considering he has been the president the past 4 years.

What i've heard from the news in Germany, i like Obama more than Romney.

If you had no health-insurance (before Obama made on) you had to pay everything on your own?!?!

Even a stay in the hospital?

I had two accidents (motorbike and soccer) with big surgeries. So i had to pay them myself?

It is still that way. If you have no health insurance, you pay for it all.

Health insurance can cost $100+ per month. You have deductables to pay ($20-50) for Dr. visit or hospital visit and the health insurance company pays a certain percentage up to a certain $ amount.

With health insurance that covers up to $20,000

Go to Dr: $20

Finds something wrong and surgery: $20,000 (5-15% you pay and insurance pays 85-95% depending on your plan)

Second surgery needed: $10,000 (insurance pays 100%)

Co-pay for drugs: $20 per prescription

or you do what most americans do that cannot afford it.. just dont pay it and settle with paying what you can...

Ok. thats hard.

In Germany all people have health insurance. Even unemployed people (so the working people are paying for the unemployed ones) the costs depend on your earning and is 8.2 % of your income but never more than 350€(not completely sure could be less) and if you earn over 3750€(but only if you really earn more than this) you can do a private health care(that is paying for more expensive pills etc.)

In Germany we pay a lot of taxes and stuff

until you make a certain ammount of money you pay 47,5% taxes...
