Recoil

This has plagued me for years.

If I get into a duel, if I'm getting hit, I expect those hits to throw my return fire/aim off and it does.

BUT, if I get the first shots/hits, why does the guy I'm hitting, his aim in many cases, not seem affected by getting hit?

SO many times, I'll hit someone 2,3,4 times before they return fire and they turn and when the first shots they fire back hit, my aim get's thrown way off...

Or am I just getting old and my reflexes messed up.

Also, getting old again, what's a good Crosshair size that's not TOO big? Currently, I use and have long used 36 - white dot, but I see it lose focus on it in battles more and more often.

Getting old sucks, btw....

Supposedly, your crosshairs remain still and true, it is just your view that gets shaken.  If it is an illusion, then I am fooled by it every time.  You reminded me to concentrate on the c-hairs, but if we are shaking, how can the crosshairs remain accurate? :hmm

I'm sure it has been mentioned in other topics that the kickback you experience when being shot at is only a visual thing. your crosshair is still in the same place. Any attempts to adjust your crosshair as a result will just end up with you missing shots. My guess is that when you shoot first and then suddenly get hit, you try to adjust and counter it. As for the person being shot at first, its most likely that he isn't trying to adjust for any kickback and is reacting, initially at least, based on reflexes, reacting to being shot at and that is why he may be more accurate. Just a thought.

What I do when shooting is to move towards where I shoot as crouched, it kinda keeps my aim/recoil more steady when I get hit. I dont think there is other ways to "prevent" the knockback.

My dot:

set cg_crosshairColor "cyan"
set cg_crosshairAlpha "1.0"
set cg_crosshairColorAlt "cyan"
set cg_crosshairSize "50"
set cg_drawCrosshair "5"

I just wonder that, if our POV is being 'shoved around', how can our crosshairs remain on target if our view of the target seems to be changed?

if I recall correctly there is a slight kick at the start of the recoil for maybe 1-2 bullets but after that your aim is in the original position even if visually it doesn't look like it.

Low fov and low fps can make knockback seem a lot worse.

I'd try paying more attention to how you strafe in battle.  Not only does aiming with your strafe limit your mouse movement which causes less bullet spread but also limits small aiming mistakes such as overreacting to knockback.

Also, heart attack levels of panic when you take damage can go a long way.  You're more than likely just making yourself too easy of a target. Defensive and aiming strafing is often overlooked.

As for crosshair... I use on average a dot crosshair, size 70 :) Use a size that works for you and your eyes.

Your X-Hair size is smaller than mine

The only other difference is I had m_yaw 0.020
