Graphics card upgrade

As my last compute decided to die I've updated too an Alienware Auror 4, which is good but obviously the graphics card which it came with is pretty low standard and looking for a good upgrade which isn't messily expensive, currently have a Nvidia GTX 555, want something that will run games like PUBG smoothly without any lag at a decent res

Depends what other games u play and budged. GTX 1060 6GB would be sufficient for PUBG, but depends on those two details.

on one hand gtx1060 6gb is enough for Pubg and rust, i think gtx1070 is futureproofed for atleast 2-3years, if you can afford get a 1070ti, its enough for the next 5 years at 1440p 60fps

I honestly don't think there's been a worse time to buy a graphics card then now.

200 dollar cards are 350- and a 1060- which should be around $350, is retailing for a whopping 450 dollars from what I see. That's the MSRP of a 1070.

I guess what matters is your definition of a "decent" resolution. Are you looking at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K?

Edit: Scratch the pricing I quoted, looks like some models are still inflated to that much, but supply has returned to ease the prices back down.

I hear good things about the EVGA and MSI variants of the 1060.

Depending on your budget, if you can't afford something new in the realm of the 1060/580, then you'll probably want to start looking at used cards.

Newegg has the EVGA GTX 1060 6GB for $289 right now.  My index finger is getting mighty itchy to pull the trigger on a half decent build for $1200.

When looking for a graphics card look for Nanometers "NM" and Bus Speed. NM also applies to HD's as well for read/write times.

 

The higher the NM the faster response time it has the higher the Bus speed the more Frames per second you will have.

 

a $20 card can perform as fast as a $200 card if these number are about the same.

 

Also take in heat factor and size does make a difference if it is a hot GC that requires more then one fan then it will have future problems of FPS drops from Voltage issues.

 

Have to make sure your computer's PSU is strong enough I would suggest getting a PSU over 600 watts for performance.

 

4-6 cores is plenty 4 core or Quads are decent for any game.

Sayy whaat? Not sure what are are those NM you are implying to?

But yeah case dimensions for graphics card and PSU power output on 12V rail should be checked for every GPU upgrade... Though those new nVidias are power efficient. And GTX 1060 6GB should be enough as it sits below Fury X and I can play anything at High\Ultra @1440p mix. If you´d want to push every new AAA title @Ultra settings then an GTX 1080Ti would be good choice. I´m personally waiting for AMD-s next move...

The current prices for mid-tier cards are still mildly inflated.  What's a decent resolution to you? would you want to game at 144hz? or stick to 60hz?  1440 or 1080P? There are quite a lot of variables when it comes to picking out a graphics card.  A game such as PUBG and its FPS ilk are, imo best when the eye candy is dialed down.  If shooters are your main games, I would consider a 1060 card. The performance is hard to beat at that price point. 1070 would be my second recommendation if you'd like room to grow

I play at the lowest Resolution at the moment but i want to be using better res while playing games like PUBG, at the moment i get bad lag and such and all my other specs apart from my graphics card are up to scratch, we are looking at spending about £400 - £500 pound on this as well, and most people have said the 1060 is proabably best, but would we be able to get a better one with spending that much?

Well, a quick google to convert your money into U.S. dollars says that you could afford a 1070.  So, I think if you are comfortable spending that kind of money, I would say go for the 1070!

You won't regret it. You will be able to run a lot of games at high or ultra settings depending on the title and it will serve you well for a long time.  FWIW, I have a 1080 gtx and i still dial down the graphics on some games. Mostly for competitive reasons.
