TrustIssue Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 So yeah I have EvolveHQ and i'm never on there because I do not understand it at all & I dislike it. (may X-Fire rest in peace) So there's this thingy called DISCORD. Quote from Wikipedia: " Discord (stylized as DISCORD) is a free proprietary VoIP application designed for gaming communities. Discord runs on Microsoft Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux, and in a web browser. In December 2016, the developers announced that Discord had over 25 million users. " It is easy to set up, you can secure it with a password if you would like, it is FREE & extremely easy to use. You can even download the DISCORD App on your smartphone, so you're always in touch with your gaming buddies! WOW! Technology these days! I know it's been discussed that the way we communicate is via TS3 and EvolveHQ, other stuff has not worked out due "security" reasons, well with discord that is no problem at all. Basically DISCORD is TS3 & EvolveHQ in one program! How convenient! You can send Private Messages, Group Chat and Voice Chat all in the same app, no need to download 30 programs because you want to use VoiP and chat! You have the ability to create several 'sub' categories. So it's easy to use, looks great & has VoiP + Chat in one! I hope you guys appreciate my idea, I won't be dissapointed if my idea is thrown out (ofcourse I would be dissapointed), just throwing it out there since i'm not really liking Evolve. Here's the link for anyone that does not yet know what Discord is and wants to check it out! ( https://discordapp.com/ ) Thanks for reading Ladies & Gents, Trust. 5 Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted March 1, 2017 Leader Posted March 1, 2017 Shee-ooot! I never got back to it! Quote
Koen Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Can vouch for Discord, I use it to communicate with IRL friends (during games). Not sure how many people will use it though, considering the low amount of TS3 users. Quote
Haruhi Suzumiya Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) How is it better than other programs such as TS3? I have not used Evolve or Discord but am pretty active on TS3 and it seems to offer everything mentioned above. I'm mainly concerned about simplicity and the amount of resources a program uses if it will always be running in the background, especially while gaming. Lets here about the negatives.. if you know of any Edited March 1, 2017 by Haruhi Suzumiya Quote
Shana Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 We already have test discord chat. Talk with: https://fearless-assassins.com/user/17736-achilleus/ aka Zailender Ts3 stores messeages up to certain extent where discord doesn't have this limitation. Also In my opinion discord handles voice better than ts3 in matter of sound clarity. 1 Quote

Lets here about the negatives.. if you know of any I never encountered problems with Discord myself. Altough some people encoutered problems when if the mic is muted and you're watching a YT vid it will play the sound in discord. Also the mic can cut out sometimes when alt+tabbing. But using discord as a Messenger does not have to mean we abandon TS3. I'm just saying that Discord has that aswell which could be usefull since it's free Quote

It's really hard to switch to different program since we've been using ts3 for so long. We tried as messenger with evolveHQ, whatsapp and telegram, and even some that I'm not even aware of - cause they all failed (xfire : You might want to make a poll discord/ts3, not everyone has something to say but still can have their own vote 1 Quote
Th3N0ob3r Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 We (friends and me) are currently trying out Discord after canceling our TS3 server because its free. So far I havent noticed any peformance issues. There are some things I like and some I dont. Pro: - Text- and Talkchannels. You can make textchannels that store the messages and you can use them from Android/IOS if you download the app without much issues. - Onlinelist Discordserver work the way that you can invite people with a link and then they are "subscribed" to the server. So you have a list with people who are subscibed and you see if they are online or not. Being online doesnt mean that they are currently in a Talkchannel but they will be able to see the messages of the Textchannel. You can also see what games the people on the list are playing if they want to display it. - Friendlist You can add people to a friendlist and have a private chat with them. Or a private call whatever you like. Con: - I miss the TS3 sounds like "User joined your channel" If someone joins a channel there is a windowslike sound. If someone leaves there is a windowslike sound. EVERYTHING is a windowslike sound (although they are different). I am really confused at times because of it. - No log. There is no log like in TS3 where you can see when someone joined/moved or left a channel. - No poke. You cant poke people. Thats rather annoying at times. - Some problems We had some problems where some people didnt hear someone else until they restarted Discord. Funtime if you try to communicate with someone and you somehow cant hear him in the middle of the match. --- We will probably continue to use it because we are cheap and its not to bad. Although we are a bit concerned about how they stay in business without displaying adds etc.. They do offer some sort of premium service but I dont know if that is enough. 3 Quote
Raider- Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Discord is the bomb. Been using it since June 2015. Pros - You can create you're own channels easily. - Can be in many servers at same time, but can only join one voice channel. - Private messages - Game overlay - Sound clarity - Chat can have videos and pictures viewed and played within discord instead of just hyperlink text. - You can easily see admins, members, guests within the channel on the right who are online, but may not be connected to the voice channels. - You can see offline people who have connected to the channel, good way of adding friends. - People who don't have the app can still join servers through the web browser. May as well download the app though. - Interface beats TS3, Ventrillo, and Mumble. - You can make yourself invisible to others when in a server. Good for hidden admins if needed. - Shows you what games people are playing. - It's FREE!!! Cons - Sometimes Discord will stop all sounds within it. Had this happen twice since I've used it, not a big deal just had to restart Discord. - Notification sounds are too similar. Features I would like to see -Server info on games people are playing in. -Launch games -Join friends game To me Discord blew the other competition away for what it has to offer. It has combined parts of Xfire, TS3, Mumble, and Forum capabilities into one with a really clean interface. Discord is still relatively new, so I would expect it only to grow. March 2015 - Jan 2016 = 3 mil users. Jan 2016 - Jan 2017 = 25 mil users. That is good growth, I expect it to dominate the competition in years to come. 1 Quote
