Popular Post Chameleon Posted March 19, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 19, 2013 Today, for me is a very special day, an anniversary of sorts. A year ago today I made a decision that would impact me and my family in an awesome way. I spent 10 years of my life on the road with just about every band you can think of, being everything from a roadie, to a stage manager, a guitar tech and so on. And in that life I picked up some pretty bad habits. I had become a word class alcoholic and drug user. I spent many years in a literal blur. Sometimes days, or even a week or so would pass and I would have no memory of it ever happening. I was in a hardcore downward spiral and as far as I could see, the only way out was the end of my life. One morning after a huge show with Papa Roach, Hinder and Seether I awoke after a huge after party with an amazing pain in my chest, something like I had never felt in my life. After a few hours of trying to work and deal with the pain I collapsed. I was rushed to the nearest hospital and taken straight in. Immediately the Dr. on call knew what was going on and started treating me for a heart attack. He called in a Cardiologist who took me straight in for a heart cath. Within moments he found I had a collapsed artery 99% blocked. I was having a massive heart attack and my life was slipping away. Thankfully this Cardiologist was a veteran and knew exactly how to fix me. Longer story short, I received a couple of stents and my life was saved. My daughter who had been there the whole time, was there by my bed when I woke up, which was like seeing an angel, begged and pleaded with me to change my life and it was in this moment I finally realized what my lifestyle was doing to the person I loved the most. So that day I decided to change and become a better person. Today is the one year anniversary of that day and I am happy to say that I am still clean and sober! Best decision I ever made. With today being the 1 year anniversary I have decided that I need to finally change my name from Chr0n which I think most of you know what that is short for, to something new. I feel like it is time to finally forget the old me and bring in the new me. I don't have any names in mind and that is why I brought this whole thing to the community. I would love to hear some suggestions and your thoughts and maybe together we can come up with something. Thanks to everyone for being so awesome, believe it or not, being here with you all and being a part of this community helps me deal with my demons from the past. Shane A.K.A. Chr0n 11 Quote

I have my own addiction I have been dealing with off & on over the past 20 years. I know it will take something like this to wake me up, but it hasn't happened yet. 1 Quote

advaita Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Just the other day i came across this wonderful phrase "Make changes before they are forced upon you" and your story is both a lesson and an inspiration to many who want to change for the better but lack the will to take that step, make that extra effort, pull harder, rise against the odds, overcome their inner demons. They are just plain lazy(like me who keeps putting off wearing those shoes and go for a run or do some exercise). How about "Phoenix" for a name change? 1 Quote
LainTime/Bazingaa^_- Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Great work man! Keep it up and you know where we are! And for the name, i agree with goofy, Phoenix is a really fitting name for this kind of story. From this, to this. If you decide to take that name, i have a really good idea for a new signature 2 Quote
Chuckun Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Well I'm glad you were able to overthrow your old habbits! So many people in your position don't find enough drive to be sober, even after such a scare.. So I'm glad you did.. For yourself and your loved ones.. I don't feel I am really in any position to give you any supportive words, since I am in admiration of you turning your life around.. All I can say is good on you man.. And keep on treasuring every moment with those that mean the most to you.. 1 Quote
Chameleon Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 Thanks everyone for all the support, I can't put into words what it means to me.. Through all of it I have had to do it myself with only the support of my daughter since it has just been her and I for the past 20 years. So having everyone saying all these awesome things and showing this kind of support really does mean the world to me.. This community and you people really are the greatest! And I do like the name Phoenix and what it means.. I will think upon this one while at work today Quote
Chuckun Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Yeah, I know someone with a phoenix tattoo for a similarly fitting story.. The phoenix is a good symbol, and I think it would be a fitting name 1 Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted March 21, 2013 Leader Posted March 21, 2013 "Angel's Love" or "Loved by an Angel" sprang to mind, but, uh, we have an F|A Ang3l already so those might be mis-interpreted. Does a song come to mind that expresses your emotions? Tiptoe through the Tulips? Nah. Quote
