mraw435 Posted May 21, 2025 Posted May 21, 2025 Interesting new updates being developed for windows 11 -- in the article below, I think incorporating AI into file manager will be interesting (hopefully not cumbersome). A neat feature is summarizing a specific file without haviing to open it! https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2025/05/19/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-26200-5603-dev-channel/ 1 Quote
Blunt Posted May 21, 2025 Posted May 21, 2025 I can only hope, I have copilot at work and I only find it useful in Word. Excel it tells me I need to put the data in a table. Not following why copilot can't do this action for me. Then when I manually put it into a table it tells me table the table is too big. The meeting summary is ok. If you show up late to a Teams meeting you can ask it to tell you what you missed so far, which is kind of nice. The right mouse click summarize a document does sound like a nice feature, be nice if it works on Excel files with pivots. 1 Quote

That is always the worst when spending 10 minutes trying to catch someone up on everything discussed because they were late (or alternatively, if I am the one late and dont have to bother the team if I can just read a quick summary!) I am sure the file summary will be very much a beta feature for some time. However, whenever they get it functioning well, it will for sure be a pretty cool feature. I currently avoid all AI on excel, as you stated, it is totally bugged and takes more time going with its recommendations/fixing those steps rather than just doing it myself when needed! .... i am still only slightly leaning into chatgpt but getting to learn the benefits of such technology...not solely to rely 100 percent on it but to simply be more time efficient and produce higher quality products. Blunt Posted May 21, 2025 Posted May 21, 2025 @mraw435 Have you tried Notebook LM. It's my favorite way to listen to a white paper. I put the above thread into the audio link below; https://notebooklm.google.com/notebook/c468be20-049f-4259-acd1-4b05db830565/audio 1 Quote

I have not tried this before and I am thoroughly interested/impressed! I am constantly tasked summarizing large quantities of information -- the greater focus on long-form research summaries rather than the chat-focused products I think is awesome. I will try this out more for sure thanks for sharing! 1 Quote

I love how they present the information, like a discussion panel Quote
mraw435 Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 @Blunt notebooklm is probably the best AI ive used for a professional setting to date! I just uploaded a 1400 page PDF and asked it to provide a list each time a specific phrase is mentioned and it provided a complete final product. Many other tools i have previously used have said something along the lines are "here are 20 examples...is this enough?!" and is quite incomplete. I am a fan! Also included in Google apps (I keep trying to get away from relying on Googles suite of tools but they keep drawing me back lol) 4 Quote
mraw435 Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Opened my laptop today and was surprised to look at a blue screen asking for my bitlocker recovery key. Read up that a recent security update broke a bunch of stuff - microsoft released an out-of-band update to fix many of these issues. Look into updating your system if you are facing any issues! https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2026/03/22/major-issues-microsoft-confirms-emergency-update-for-windows-users/ Quote

Luckily i think we are all updated/back up and running...would have been an annoying friday if it bricked lol Quote

One for Windows and one for Arch and I didn't add the boot info to GRUB so I have to F8 to choose which drive to boot to with the Arch drive as the default. ET is pretty much the only game I play often anymore and works fine on both OS's - now that Wayland is finally running well with Nvidia drivers 1 Quote

Based on my own testing, newer releases appeared to introduce unusual performance and latency issues, while reverting to 591.74 noticeably improved system behavior. Nouveau may also be worth considering in some Linux setups, depending on your needs and compatibility requirements. I first noticed the issue when friends on Discord had trouble hearing me while I was playing a newer game. Using LatencyMon, I traced the problem to a significant spike in GPU related audio latency, which was unexpected on an RTX 5090 class system. After researching similar reports and rolling back to 591.74, I saw substantial improvements: Discord audio problems disappeared, and performance increased significantly across nearly every title I tested, in some cases by more than 20%.
