Enemy Territory could and should be released on the German Steam storefront as well. Unmodded versions of Enemy Territory do not contain nationalsocialist symbols to my knowledge, unlike Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Plus, since 2018 courts and state prosecutors generally regard video games to fall under the exemption clause of art of § 86 Abs. 4 StGB, allowing for the release of video games containing swastikas and other nationalsocialist symbols. The international version of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Steam link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/612880/Wolfenstein_II_The_New_Colossus_International_Version/) was released uncut in Germany.

Zenimax/Microsoft or whoever is responsible for the release should think of the German players and release it on the German Steam store as well.

Other than that, this is great news. Could really boost the player base and could be a sign for bigger things to come: Maybe a remake or remaster of RtCW and ET, maybe a new Wolfenstein reboot, but this time with a multiplayer component? MachineGames is working on a new Indiana Jones game, so unless they have multiple development teams Microsoft would have to hand the IP to a new studio.

ET is great as it is but I think you could improve on some areas of the game. The game does not utilize modern hardware well, like multiple CPU cores. You could probably buff the graphics quite a lot and still have the game run on potato machines. Especially on the bigger maps far away targets often become a mess of pixels. The netcode is outdated by now with its low snaprate and could use some reworking. The game lacks some modern QoL features that people are accustomed to by now.

A remaster could also help tremendously with bringing in a new generation of players. We have a lot of younger players in our community as well, but I would think that age wise the player base is skewed to the 30+ year olds. A lot of the younger players probably are scared away by the outdated graphics and janky animations (by modern standards).

The only fear I would have with a remake or remaster is that one of the biggest qualities of ET - the community run servers - could be endangered. Due to modern monetization schemes publishers are hostile to the idea that a community of players should run their own servers with their own rules, maps, mods and modes and prefer to take control over the matchmaking themselves. Ideal would be a hybrid system - publisher run servers for official matchmaking with vanilla rules and community run servers which offer their own unique game experiences like in CS: GO -, but looking at games like Quake Champions I fear that that wouldn't be an option. There people have been asking for community run servers and a server browser for ages, but Bethesda and Saber Interactive can't be bothered.

I'd "guess" at some point it would go over to SteamCMD for dedicated servers. It is much easier to keep everyone on the same version number and such, there. Even if it doesn't, I'm glad to see it finally on Steam!

I hope you can link the ban to the steam VAC and have double the protection.

I can say by running 3 Rust and 1 Conan Exiles servers that the Valve Anti-Cheat system is installed on the person's computer and finds cheats that way.

It is by the BattleMetrics system that I have recently (in the last year) VAC banned players banned from entering my servers. Though, one has to set up a trigger for that. So being VAC banned may or may not work with how W:ET servers are set up. Which I know zero about.

I think a lot of newer players joining ET if they join an FA server will like the FA splash screen with all the servers listed thats added to etmain etc.

NQ1 been nice, was full at one point and was nearly warning specs to join up or leave, not done that in many moons. 😄

It seems that at least some of the players are "returning to ET" form 10 years or more ago.  They might have forgotten some of the details, like how to rename from "ETPlayer', but do shoot and run the maps fairly well.  😄  Others seem brand-new and those who know English might ask things like "how to spawn", "how to play this game' and "how to set FPS" and other questions.

I have only found one team-messer that I "had to" admin-abuse, with Disorient, Launch and Splat.  I thought that I was teaching him to associate his ET troubles with his mortar-messing, but no.  He kept approaching his mortar-man with dynamite out.  He never responded to my words or actions and eventually left jay1. :(   I added a warning to his record for future reference by the admins.

SteamET has brought us a "Brave New ET World!" 😮  There is no predicting how the FA Clan and the ET community will be changed by it! 👀

aaa you guys will be fine just keep it to the rules  if they can't follow them  point them to our forums with a link to our rules  would be a good way of dealing with guys who do not replay  if they do not get the point with a kick ban them with a link to our rules i would keep it to hr's bans tho for the new guys then again we could have old trolls coming back with this steam to so keep a eye out xD

Jay 2 is totally benefiting from this, and you can see some of the new players are pretty skilled, so they're either old players returning or they're coming from other servers that may not be as populated or as well run as FA servers. Jay 2 is back to the competitive, objective-oriented server I made my home 2 years ago!!!

How nice is this?
