hi there. i just got kicked for using a VPN.. which I am not. Well, I am playing from my isolated work site and I guess the company provided internet may be using a VPN. I don't really have any control over that, it is how my internet access is provided. Can I be whitelisted or something?

Hi, if you had responded on server no problem, sorry for kick we get a lot of haxxors using VPN. You are welcome to play.

TBS shows your name as playing mostly on FA-Beginners#2 and other servers https://et.trackbase.net/player/6142611/

Which server did you get kicked from?

I did a cmd Tracert to your IP from N.California and got some odd results, which might help explain your high ping to Beginners#2, which is on the DE/FR border in Europe.

I don't know if that is a temporary glitch, but it would explain your high pings to that Eu server.  I wonder if that is an anti-gaming measure by your company. I am getting an ET-ping of 168 to FA-Beginners#2 right now.  Yours, as recorded by TBS, shows about 400 or so! :o  You can try playing on FA-Silent#1 and see what your ping to New Jersey might be.  "/connect silent1.clan-fa.com".

@grebfar The first item on this page may explain your problems

 https://serverfault.com/questions/39712/what-does-ttl-expired-in-transit-mean-on-a-ping-attempt

Your company may be having a "bad routing table" somewhere.  Pinging your IP also returned a “TTL expired in transit”  immediately, so quickly that it implies a message from YHC-nodes and not from my ping command. (Yes, the 2nd item on that page explains the 'strange'  TTL-reply)  The first item also explains the IP-Loops that my Tracert received.  My Tracert cmd seems to have detected the looping and quit before trying to reach your playing-IP anymore.

You seem to have been kicked "accidentally", which does happen from time to time.  I have been known to accidentally set a bot or two to Trial Membership! :o

DareDevil tells me that your company connection is okay to play from to our servers.

My question about your "isolated work site" is,  just how far is it from the corporate node in Houston, Texas, USA?  If your work site is in Europe, then your packets might travel extra thousands of kms to reach our Beg#2 server in Europe! That could explain your high pings.  It depends on your Corporation's network, etc.

BTW, my Tracert to your IP was from outside to the inside of your network.  You might get different results if you do a "tracert Google.com". in a cmd-window.

I just tried that and got a surprise.  This is the first time that I have gotten IPV6 results, instead of an IPV4. :D

tracert google.com

Tracing route to google.com [2607:f8b0:4005:808::200e]

[I deleted first nodes]

 15    16 ms    16 ms    31 ms  2001:4860:0:1::1c19
 16    18 ms    27 ms    41 ms  sfo03s07-in-x0e.1e100.net [2607:f8b0:4005:808::200e]

Trace complete.

It is the time in ms that is important and whether your packets seem to loop between YHC nodes on the 'way out' of your network. INVALID Idea.

A ping or tracert to the FA servers will return IPv4 address, like this one to the Silent1.clan-fa.com in New Jersey, USA:

ping silent1.clan-fa.com

Pinging silent1.clan-fa.com [108.61.21.93] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 108.61.21.93: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=114

wow i wasnt expecting so many responses..

so i got kicked from the jaymod server. i tried to respond on server but it wouldnt let me PM.

but yeah, i had accidentally joined the jaymod server it seems as i have been playing on beginners #2 and have had no issues there. well, no issues other than my undesirable ping.

my work site is in west africa soooo that is why my ping is terrible. i am crossing the atlantic twice! africa -> houston -> europe

i have had a chat to one of the admins in game on beginners #2 about this and it seems there is no issue for me to continue playing there.

You removed a little bit too much info. Could you only remove the second line and leave the rest as-is? Thank you. First line is local, second line is your IP, rest are ISPs and routers.

Hmm... I didn't know we started limiting PMs on JayMod servers... last I checked, Beginners #1 (aka Jay3) has open PMs whereas Beginners #2 has restricted PMs. Both are located in Europe.

If you are playing through work, yes, you are OK for VPN usage. Most workplaces use VPNs btw. (Or they should, at least...)

I had realized that this was an invalid idea, as I was running a Tracert into your company's Houston network.  I had never seen that kind of "swirling around" when testing a connection and was extremely puzzled by it.  It never did complete and it had stopped after a "hops exceeded"  message. :D I had hoped that is was some kind of clue, but it was I who was "clueless". :D

I don't think your IP is in ban list anymore and it's whitelisted. Please confirm.

Better late than never, but I've been playing on Beginners #2 all this time with no issues.

I logged back onto the Jaymod server today and played for a while and did not get the kick notice. So confirmed, all good! Thanks.
