We've all been in this situation. You're playing hard for the obj., maybe you're a covie with a uni; maybe you're an engi defending your dyno. Whatever the case might be, somehow, a teammate kills you (on accident), and now you get to choose.... Do i press F1? or F2?

Either we have been the person killed, or we are the one who killed our teammate. Whatever the reason, it happens to the best of us, and we move on.

The WORST however, is when you TK a teammate, because of something THEY did!! Today, I was playing Supply Depot. I had planted a dyno at the main gate, and i was throwing nades at the dyno to protect. Pr0digio then comes out of nowhere, and stands near my grenade and dies. He then presses F1 and files complaint.

This has gotten to a point where I automatically know which players will file a complaint (like Pr0digio), even if its an accidental kill, or if its their fault they died, for example, running over my mines, running into team arty, standing by team grenade, etc......

How should this be handled? Should Admin be allowed to !warn players who clearly abuse this system? We all know the Complaint system is to be used for players who are purposefully/intentionally killing teammates. These people ruin the game, and they deserve F1.

But what do we do about people who abuse this system? There are some people whose automatic response is to press F1 without waiting for teammate to say v45 (sorry).

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Should we just keep things the way they are?

I would also like to add that LazyHippo suggested i bring this up here so thank you to him for suggesting I get everyone's input :)

Try and get some demos or screenshots of this happening if you can. :)

If someone is messing around with mines. That warrants a warn. You can ask him verbally to stop first just to make sure hes aware that what hes doing is wrong. If he continues 3xwarn then kick. If it continues, you can make a thread about that player in our members section. Make sure to collect all relevant data. Same goes for intentionally running into mines so they can file complaints etc.

To be honest, I personally have never had any issues with this pr0d guy. Hes always been nice. Maybe you can have a little chat with him to see whats up. How long has this been going on for? maybe he was having a bad day if this only just happened now. Ill talk to him next time i see him.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Nader! :)

You make a good point here.

Here's some pointers I can offer:
-Teamkill complaints don't go to admins, but they are written to the server log afaik. Our servers logs are HUGE (my client logs are over 150,000 lines long a piece, which I use to back up condumps and whatnot)
-Try talking to the player complaining about teamkills. Send them a PM, don't use main... and record your message and their (non)response using /autoscreenshot or via demo.
-Use finger to gather information on the player abusing the system, and post a trouble player topic so that Leaders and Founders know to look out for them during log reviews and to know that the complaints are baseless.

Annnnd... I see Cheep has ninja'd me. What's new?

I would say just let this slide.  He may or may not have purposely stood near the dyno and he has the right to file a complaint if tk'd.

I understand that Pr0digio! can be kind of annoying in that he usually files complaint and if he kills you as a covie, which he always is, he will always knife you to gib.  But those things are all allowed.  And there are times too when he doesn't file, so I think he is fair in general.

In general, he is a quiet player, never talks any shit and never breaks the rules so I think just let it go.

So although teamkilling isn't explicitly mentioned in the server rules, our approach to it and previous cases have proven that it is considered "trouble making".

Our admin guide solidifies that approach. If in doubt check out admin guide! :)

Seems to me like this has happened several time before which is why Nader brought this up.

Please tell more about the gibbing you've seen though. Hardcore may have teamkill enabled, but that doesn't mean excessive teamkilling is allowed, only if it's a mistake in fact.

It seems like there might be a misunderstanding about our rules, so I'll refer you to our wiki for an update :)

Hardcore specific rules:

  • Their is no rush rule on this server. i.e. Players can complete the objective whenever they like.
  • TJ is allowed.
  • Objective hogging is not allowed.

Admin guide:

  • @Jaymod: You can slap or use disorient for team killers. Do it once or thrice. Try to get his attention and tell him not to do it. If he continuous use !kick and end the story. If any player is !kicked for 3 or more times for team killing, admins can ban him for 1 to 3 days.
  • @silEnT: Use !warn command on silEnT with some good reasons. Not just some lame ass reasons. Use tk, bitching, etc reasons. Don't warn someone with reason like this "i said dont" because it doesn't make sense to another admin.

Xernicus you don't understand my response to the original issue.

Pr0digio! is running over team mines and getting himself team-killed and then filing a complaint with F1 against the guy who planted the mines, like Nader, to lose XP.  He is allowed to complain in this nature.  I have not seen Pr0digio! purposely run over mines in excess.  When I said that he gibbed me with a knife, I mean he first kills me as an enemy in battle, and then finishes it off by knifing so I can't get revived.  That too is allowed, just annoying when it is done every time.  Otherwise, like I said, Pr0digio! is a quiet player who follows the rules.

Teamkilling is part of molesting your own team mates. There's an explicit rule for this which isn't only for HC:

"3) Respect other players. Do not molest your own team players in any way. For example blocking mortars and pushing or obstructing covert ops. You will be warned, splated, kicked or banned depending on what admin feels right so that enjoyable environment is maintained on the server.)"

Bigger problem is that 80% of players on HC doesnt know how to play around teamdamage and just go panzer into 3 own players or strike/rifle into your teammates without any thinking that they could use luger or wait a moment, ppl here are just rookies without any experience and knowledge about ET and how to play around team without causing massive bleeds. Most of my maps end up around 600-1.5k team dmg recieved because majority of ppl are just pure dummies when it comes to gamesense and how to play around situations where u re in a fight or running somewhere.

Well, unfortunately tk rules arent handled as strictly anymore. Regulars with hundreds of thousands xp and years of experience getting 1k+ tdg for multiple maps in a row. Then again I have broken 2k tdg at least once or twice because teammates just run in my arty on the enemy spawn, so the tdg doesnt always tell the right story.

People should remember that ff isnt enabled because tk is allowed, its enabled so people have to use that 1extra braincell to not unload on your teammates. If you are someone who simply doesnt have that 1 extra cell, please just leave the server and play somewhere else.

Good luck explaining that to majority of players there :D

Even when teamkilled on purpose, I would seldom use F1 to file a complaint. It's just a **** move to aggravate things even further. Got a problem, take a demo, bring it to the forum. If you had it coming, take the hit like a man and move on :P
