Ol Smoke Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Online? Shit man. Way back. Would have to have been a text-based MUD in '99. After that I dabbled in Runescape and then Wolfenstein ET for my first online FPS. That's way back? Try Zelda in 1990. But my first online game was Tic-Tac-Toe in 1970. Played online with the server "Oscar" at Oregon State University. Ain't that cool? 1 Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted February 8, 2015 Leader Posted February 8, 2015 But my first online game was Tic-Tac-Toe in 1970. Played online with the server "Oscar" at Oregon State University. Ain't that cool? Was that dial-up on an acoustic modem (set handset into device) with the oh-so rare and privileged password? It looks like Oscar's great-grandson is still there: https://oscar.oregonstate.edu/ Quote

I definitely rocked Zelda in 1990, and the Atari a year or two before. Blame my gamer grandma for that one. I didn't get much opportunity to use computers freely when I was growing up. Total console lover. But now that I think about it, I think '96 was actually my first online experience with games. The yahoo chess, checkers, and card games. We had access in the school library, but I didn't get much experience with them, so '99 is definitely my foot in the door to online gaming. Can't beat that tic-tac-toe story though. That is pretty awesome when you think about it, and how far we've come technologically since then. Quote
=Plat00n= Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Hard to Remember but texas hold em poker (2002) was a big online game at the time Still think ET is a classic online game Quote
SubZero Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 My First online game was Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted February 8, 2015 Leader Posted February 8, 2015 On dialup PC, Quake 2 CTF. Come to think of it, dial-up playing Doom modem-to-modem against my brother-in-law, using a sound.wad file I made using his son's sounds to replace the monsters' audio. Shareware on a Windows 3 Pentium 2, I think. Quote

kajto3 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Some browser games (like Tribal Wars) and some MMORPG (like Sherwood Dungeon, that was dope that times). I remember playing RTCW some time before I entered the Internet, some time after I rediscovered ET and it had taken me most of my online time. Quote
