Getting DDOS'ed from a troll in Competitive Counter Strike

Recommended Posts

Not the first time this shit happened to me.

This guy attacked me from like 1000 IP adress at the same time.

Crashed my net for a good 2H + making me enjoy match abandon ban ( and a lose with that ).

(He calls me on steam voice call)
(I refuse)
Quovadis: ?
Dox: nothing im just shutting off ur internet
Quovadis: lol gl with that
Dox: k
Dox: lets strt with 3 minute break
Dox: enjoy ur break from the net?
Dox: im giving the terrorist a break right now
Dox :i can give u another one if u like
Quovadis: Congrats on using loic
Quovadis: You are good
Quovadis: You are lucky I am just a coder
Quovadis: That ip was probably hard to type
Quovadis: And then hiting the start button
Dox: LOL
Dox: LOL
Dox: LOIC
Dox: HAHAHHA
Dox: CUZ LOIC DOES SHIT
Dox: LMFAO
Dox: did u get an abandon?
Dox: or game end in time
Dox: cuz ur f***ing bad
Dox: and lost every round
Quovadis: Lol using whatever program someone else coded for you
Dox: HAHAHAH
Dox: yeah ok
Dox: its called a botnet
Dox: 60Gb/s botnet
Dox: how mad does that make u?
Quovadis: Not really actually
01:53 - Dox: u know ur net is back on right?
01:53 - Dox: u dont have to stay on ur phone
01:54 - Quovadis: lol
01:54 - Quovadis: You crashed myshity gateway
01:55 - Dox: LOL
01:55 - Dox: HAHHAHA
01:55 - Quovadis: That same one that didnt block the requests its supose to block
01:55 - Dox: dont feel too bad no firewall could stop a ddos
01:55 - Dox: only dos
01:56 - Dox: if the ddos is strong enough and is done from enough people you would need someone actually analyzing the packet flow
01:57 - Dox: that's why no one could rly stop Anonymous ddos attacks
01:57 - Dox: they got people from all over the country to be part of their gigantic bot net
01:57 - Quovadis: Of course if you have a botnet of 15000 minions 01:58 - Dox: yep
02:02 - Quovadis: Didnt think steam would be dumb enough to setup a direct tunnel on voice calling though
02:02 - Quovadis: Especially before even accepting

If I didn't have a 50mb/50mb connection , I would probably get a paid proxy.

It's possible to use your router to block or at least reduce the effects of a denial of service attack. What you'd be looking to change is your rate filtering for ICMP and SYN floods, as well as blocking certain IP addresses and ports. These dumba** trolls only know how to use the default port (from my knowledge, at least), so once you've identified it, it's pretty easy to simply block the port and be done with it.

Another trick to preventing attacks from the noobs is to make sure that your router does not respond to ping requests. You can probably find that option in the WAN tab of your router's control panel.

Yeah it's a gateway from bell running a bell firmware , I can't do anything with it :/

Oh and to be honnest , at first , I expected him to try to spam packets from his home pc... Good luck with my 150/150mb connection. Didn't expect the guy to have a damn botnet..

He probably pays for services on those botnet renting websites.

In case..

-Install Comodo firewall.

In Comodo Firewall, open up the interface and go to the “Firewall†tab, then “Network Security Policy†and then the “Global Rules†tab. “Add†a new rule with this configuration:

Action: Block
Protocol: ICMP
Direction: In/Out
Description: Block ICMP Echo Replies

Leave “source†and “destination†address at “any addressâ€. Then go to the “ICMP Details†tab.
Message: ICMP Echo Reply

Then select “Applyâ€. You can buff up your security a little bit more by going to “Stealth Ports Wizard†and select “Block all incoming connections and make my ports stealth for everyoneâ€.

-HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

SynAttackProtect=1

TcpMaxConnectResponseRetransmissions=2

-In the advanced settings of your modem/router if possible:

block WAN

Just curious, how does that help? Is it because you can switch your IP now at will, or the VPN has enterprise grade hardware that blocks these sort of attacks.

Both and the fact that my IP is hidden behind it.

I can't get directly attacked anymore.
