Anyone here remember the song "On the cover of the rolling stone" by Dr. Hook and the medicine show.  I know some of you don't because

your parents weren't even born then.  But for those of us who do remember....

I played the lead part on that record.

Nailed it !!!

Jimi Hendrix carried his Strat with him, everywhere he went, for over 14 years.  Everywhere!  He once went to a  movie with this girl and he

sat there watching the show and practicing riffs at the same time. He didn't have a case, so he tied a rope to it and strung it over his shoulder.

His dad said he could hear him playing in the bathroom, when he was eating, walking to school, in school,  he was never seen without that guitar.

To be a great guitarist takes a couple of things.  1. An ear for musical tones.   2. The ability to transform what you hear in your head to the fingerboard.   3.  Practice, practice, practice.

4.  Listening to other guitarists and trying their styles.   5.  The ability to see where you want the next note to be played.  Most guitarists play the note on the fingerboard that is being played

at that point in time.  But great guitarists have already played that note and more, and are thinking of what they are going to play 10 maybe 20 notes down the line.  The best at this technique

is Eric Clapton.  Watch him play sometime, and you will see that he is many notes ahead of where the song is at that point.

Did this back in 2012 when I first started writing after leaving my original band of 20 years. It's rough to be sure but I'm used to havign other members to do the parts -  drums, bass and keyboards are a steep learning curve. I did all the parts blah blah. So many talented folks here, it's kind of embarrassing to add my pittance to the pile.

Lemme get this straight:  you're George Cummings, the original guitarist who laid the track in 71 and actually came up with the name Dr Hook? :o

Here is an oldie from a band I was in back in the 80's to 90's.. Not sure what year this song is, I think maybe 1989 lol. Yeah I am old..

I play bass, my brother is doing lead guitar..  In the pic I have a 76 Gibson Thunderbird, a 57 P-bass, and yes the that is also me with the shaved head haha.. It was a long time ago :P

Some people might debate that decks are an instrument, but if you can make sound and manipulate the sound, in my eyes it's deemed an instrument :), here i am with my buddy
