when i play on the recruiting server atleast once a day it freezes on me and i have to ctrl+alt+delete to get my desktop back,this only happens on recruiting and seeing as this seems to be my fave server at the moment its a pain in the arse,was just wondering if any of you techies had a clue

Hmmm.. U could Reinstall, copy your ETkey and send it to your mail or your pendrive. Then paste and replace it for the new key, then see if it works. Im not that good in this stuff, I had a similar problem too and that worked for me Check the topic I posted.

Are you playing from 2.55 or 2.6b? If you are playing from 2.55, updating to 2.6b fixes a LOT of issues.

Change it to 2.60b is better here is the tutorial

 

 

Now question would be how to patch?

1. Download this file:

http://fearless-assa...T_2.6_Patch.zip

 

Unzip the file and install it. Now you are on 2.6 patch.

 

2. Now download this file:

http://fearless-assa..._2.6b_Patch.zip

 

unzip it. You will see 2 files name ET.exe and ETDED.exe just copy pate those file in your wolfenstein installation folder.

 

Your operating system will ask you. Do you want to overwrite the file? Say YES.

 

Thats it, and you are on 2.6b. Their is a difference between 2.6 and 2.6b. Don't get confused.

 

If you want to PLAY ET you need to use ET.exe and if you want to start your own server you need to use ETDED.exe

 

If the problem persists with the 2.60b patch, reinstall.

As you might have seen in the topic Zuthus linked too, I had exactly the same problem.

About every 2 maps my computer would freeze, and had to do alt+crtl+delete to get everything working again.

Actually this problem is easy to solve, at least in my case, so I hope it works for you as well.

It all has to do with your configuration, on which I'm a big noob.

Of course your config depends also upon your computer, but these 4 things should reduce most lag already:

 

1. Type in console /com_maxfps 40. This is the lowest number which is allowed in our server. Whenever you notice this is good, you can always try to set it higher to 50 or 60 or so, as long as your computer can handle it.

 

2. Type in console /cl_maxpackets 100.

 

3. Type in console /rate 25000.

4. Turn of high quallity sky. This might look awful, but if it allows you to play better, it´s worth it.

I freeze up on the MLB game once in awhile meself.

MLB temple and fueldump have a random glitch that can crash your ET and is very very random, plz note the map next time.

Also, check the logs if the crash is coming from pbcl.dll or not.

right im downloading a new et as we speak,it was terrible tonight on the recruiting server,can i ask once ive downloaded and installed the new ET,do i download the 2.60b patch and unzip it in my ET folder?

im a complete div at this kind of thing sorry

As i remember correctly(installed ET a year ago lately) you have to patch 2.60. And then just copy\paste(unzip) ET.exe and ETded.exe FROM 2.60b PATCH to ET folder ON PC.
