FinZeroX Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Hi all, As you know, it's hard to tell server users that only English is allowed on global chat. You can see other languages being used several times in a single map and what can ya do when they don't understand English? Start the brower, browse for translations and copy it to ET? NO! There must be another way! So why not add some commands besides !english that would tell the same rule in other languages? Then you would only have to recognize the language spoken and enter the specified command. In Example: Some guys are speaking finnish on the server: bla bla bla.... You notice it and recognize some words: "Ah, it's finnish!" Then you only have to enter !finnish and pow, the "Only English in global chat"-rule will be displayed in finnish on the global chat! That's it, no need for copy&paste. No need for minimizing ET. No need to remember difficult centences and corret spelling! The command should be set by the language name: !finnish for rule in finnish !spanish for rule in spanish !italian for rule in italian !irish for rule in irish gaelic Etc. Etc. So what do you say? ~Fs 3 Quote
Wifestein Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I like that idea I hope it's possible ;D Quote
FinZeroX Posted September 22, 2010 Author Posted September 22, 2010 Me too, and I think it should be, dunno Quote
Papito Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 As i said before, there's a topic with this sentences in others languages. You can add it at your cfg and bind it. Don't seek the easy way to do it. I'm not able to give you the link now, nani* post it. Quote
AcidParadox Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I agree since i have a lot of trouble with main chat at jay 2 Quote

As language problems being server-wide, it'd be important that those sentences would be easily available for everyone. Also it'd be a kind of a hell to bind every 200 languages for their own buttons. Papito Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 That's the reason why the topic was created. You need read it. Quote
FinZeroX Posted September 22, 2010 Author Posted September 22, 2010 Ok, I'll take a look at it tomorrow Think I've read it already... Quote
=FlA=Incom!ng* Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 If they spam chat thats a problem, but if its every once and a while then its fine, I see many F|A members chat in non-english many times (to help the the new player learn the rules). Try these it will save you the headache: /ignore [name] seta cg_teamchattime "0" 75% of the time its a new player that is learning the game, and their buddy has invited them to come to the F|A server. I3lessed Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 really though when I see another language unless I see one of the few french or spanish words I know I have no idea what language their speaking so this cmd isn't going to help me as I'm not going to spam !english in every language Quote
hobbit Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Also it'd be a kind of a hell to bind every 200 languages for their own buttons. Theres no need to have 200 languages supported. You would only need some of the more popular languages of players that visit the servers. Polish, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish and Dutch. The majority of players will fall under these languages. There would be no need to have irish gaelic either because basically everyone in Ireland understands English. Quote
PHANTASM Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 We had quite a discussion last night on Jay1 in Spanish. One guy was named caca del puerco (pigshit) and another guy was giving him a hard time in spanish, then they had an argument in spanish, and several people were telling them english only in main chat. And of course you don't want to just mute both of them because it can be difficult to know what is going on if you don't understand every word (I certainly don't). I had to explain to the other guy, who had good intentions, that we don't care if someone wants to be named caca, it's not a problem here. Silencio por favor caca es no problema aqui Multilingual admins are always needed. Lots of players can't really explain themselves in English. Quote
Administrators daredevil Posted September 22, 2010 Administrators Posted September 22, 2010 5-10 seconds of conversations of say Hi, Hello, Bye, How are you? etc is fine. If they start talking in there language on server, my eyes starts bleeding. If they start talking in there language for more then few sentences, tell them English only please. If some admin is helping some new player in there native language it is fine. Quote
