During high school he discovered cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol and heroin. Became addicted to drugs and alcohol, also started dealing drugs. He became an outlaw biker. In 1992 he converted to Christianity, his wife had converted before him. Made his first trip to Africa in 1998, went to the Sudan. He ended up going back a lot and building an orphanage. He leads armed rescue missions, with the Sudanese freedom fighters (south Sudan), against the LRA (north Sudan) to save captured and enslaved Sudanese children. These children would otherwise end up forced to fight for the LRA, forced into slavery, and sold as sex slaves. He also frees children in northern Uganda. This film was made about him and what he does. The children in Africa call him the "Machine gun preacher". This name comes from the fact that he preaches and carries around a machine with which he kills LRA members. He built a Church in Pennsylvania with his wife. His wife runs this Church while he is gone in the Sudan. Sorry haha, I watched this movie today and thought it was a really good movie. Elephant Sighs and Moonrise Kingdom recent independent films which were cool (Wes Craven directs one or both I think).
