  10. Microsoft is adding a new feature to Xbox Live. During a Game Developers Conference presentation today, Microsoft announced the Xbox Live Tournaments Program, which are tools that developers can use to create and run eSports tournaments on Xbox Live. At the presentation, attended by The Verge, Xbox Advanced Technology Group head Jason Ronald said the new tournament program will have a range of customization options for developers to tailor to their liking. The program will be offered on Xbox One and Windows 10, leveraging the Universal Windows Platform. "Xbox Live is the connective tissue between all of the devices in our ecosystem," Ronald said. Microsoft is partnering with competitive gaming companies such as the Electronic Sports League and FaceIt for the new Xbox Live Tournaments Program. "This partnership represents a revolutionary step for the evolution of eSports, by allowing developers and publishers to gain easy and automated access to live tournaments, as well as giving them the ability to organize the logistics and handling of such," the ESL said in its own statement to GameSpot. ESL added that its internal technology team will work with game developers to help them get their titles ready for "tournament integration." There are multiple games currently in development now that will use the Xbox Live Tournaments Program, but these have not been announced. Xbox program manager Joanna Mason said, "FaceIt's fan base and expertise will amplify the platform capabilities, provide better support for game developers, and help bring competitive gaming for all skill levels to the living room and on Windows 10 PC." FaceIt CEO Niccolo Maisto went on to say that the arrival of the Xbox Live Tournaments Program marks a "monumental moment" for the future of competitive gaming. "With the new Xbox Live Tournaments Platform, Microsoft is embracing eSports and enabling gamers to experience the fun and excitement that competitive gaming has to offer," Maisto said. Beyond ESL and FaceIt, Ronald teased that Microsoft will announce partnerships with other companies "soon." This isn't Microsoft's first stab at eSports, as the company already runs the Halo World Championships. Across the industry overall, the eSports scene is on the rise. Activision and Electronic Arts have formed eSports divisions, while ESPN and Yahoo! have created their own eSports platforms. We will have more details on Microsoft's Xbox Live Tournament Program as they are made available. 11. Xbox Live could someday support 64-player party chat. Xbox head of programming Mike Ybarra recently told Game Informer that the Xbox One's March update, which increases party chat to 16 players, may only just scratch the surface for what the company hopes to achieve across console and PC. "It was eight six months ago, then we went to 12, now we're at 16," he said. "I'd love to get that to 64 because that'll get Battlefield and games [Ed. Note: a new Battlefield game is on the way] like that which do 64 vs. 64…have at it! Now, I don't want to be in a party of 64, but that's a different problem! [Laughs]" Pressed to explain why he would want 64-player party chat given his suggestion that it might not be a great user experience, Ybarra said it's all about giving players options--even for games outside its ecosystem. "I like raising that--especially on the PC where a lot of our gamers use the Xbox app with non-Xbox Live games because you get free party chat," Ybarra explained. "So if you're in World of Warcraft and you have a 20-person raid, we're seeing a lot of people loading the Xbox app, getting into big parties as their client for how they talk and they go in. "I want to raise that number to make sure I'm satisfying the Windows side and their needs as well. I think it's great that they use the Xbox app with all their games for free services, free parties, free chat, things like that." March's Xbox One update is now available for Preview Program members and will arrive for everyone else later. In addition to increasing the party chat limit to 16 players, it also introduces a store where you can buy backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games. The full patch notes have not yet been released. By comparison, the PlayStation 4's party chat feature is capped at eight users. Source http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-tech-director-wants-64-player-parties/1100-6435665/

  15. Just curious if anyone is getting this game tomorrow? I'm thinking about picking up a Xbox ONE and this game, and curious if anyone else plays it. 16. Hey Guys For those with the Xbox Live and needs to renew in the next 6 months. Newegg is offering a digital code for a year of Xbox Live for only 39.99 for this weekend Should look into it
  17. Microsoft is working on introducing customizable themes, background pics and the ability to take in-game screenshots to the Xbox One, head of Xbox and Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer confirmed. “I was told themes and background pics are something that we are working on and screenshots, you know people beat me up on screenshots,” Spencer said on a recent Inner Circle podcast episode. “The team has done a great job with the monthly updates, some of the things are just a prioritization and are a time in development. "But I know that people like to customize the look of their dash," he added. "And I think both themes, backgrounds and screenshots are things I know people want so we are going to deliver on them. But we can’t give a when yet.” Microsoft has been rolling out monthly updates to the Xbox One, with each iteration introducing new features, changes and bug fixes to the system. For instance, the console received updates to the activity feed, profiles, new media app, the capability of playing 3D Blu-rays, the Snap Mode ability for achievements and more voice control commands. You can find out more about the new-generation system and its updates on our ever-expanding Xbox One Wiki. via: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/09/xbox-one-getting-customizable-themes-background-pics-and-screenshots
  18. Microsoft is finally getting a win when it comes to Destiny - sort of. The company just announced that it will allow users to pre-buy and pre-download Bungie and Activision's Destiny on Xbox One, a feature Microsoft said during Gamescom 2014 would be coming to the console. Ever since Halo developer Bungie broke off with Microsoft several years ago, the Seattle studio has been playing favorites with Sony, so this may seem initially like a win for the Xbox platform. That is until you remember that Sony already announced earlier this year that PS4 owners will be able to pre-download Destiny as well, and Microsoft is still eating Sony's seconds. It's your destiny to buy this game nowTo pre-purchased Destiny on Xbox One head to either the Destiny Pre-Order Edition or Destiny Digital Guardian Edition listings in the Xbox store (but not the normal Destiny listing, which directs you to the other two). Once the game is purchased you can download it by selecting "manage" in the Xbox One store's listings for either version of the game, if it doesn't start automatically. It will unlock around the world just after midnight in local times on September 9, Destiny's release date, though for countries with multiple time zones the unlock will be aligned with one (sorry, east coasters). The Pre-Order Edition naturally comes with the game's Vanguard Armory and Emblem pre-order bonuses, while the more expensive Digital Guardian Edition also has other in-game bonuses and a season pass for two upcoming Destiny expansions. More games will be available for pre-download soon, Microsoft promised, so do a little dance if you really, really hate waiting. source: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/you-can-buy-and-download-destiny-for-xbox-one-right-now-1263188
  19. Earlier this year, Microsoft launched the Kinect-less Xbox One in a bid to offer more options when purchasing the console. Now the company will make the Kinect available as a standalone product. From October 7, you'll be able to purchase the Kinect sensor as a standalone product. It will cost $149.99, and come with a copy of Dance Central Spotlight. Microsoft was keen to stress earlier this year that "Kinect remains an important part of our vision," although it's notable that there aren't a huge number of Kinect games currently in development. Via: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/224377/Standalone_Kinect_for_Xbox_One_available_from_this_October.php
  20. Does anyone have any opinions on the Xbox One? Like the price, or the console itself. I want to get it, but is it really worth 500 bucks??
  21. So... we are 2 months away from the new consoles coming out. I haven't owned a playstation since the very first one that came out and have owned multiple nintendo/microsoft consoles since then. Besides paying for xbox live service for the xbox 360 I have nothing to complain about from microsoft. From what I heard, the xbox live service is better than the free internet service playstation gets (can anyone verify this from previous experience? ) I am kinda leaning towards the ps4... some of my friends are getting it and I love that I do not have to pay for the online experience. What is everyone else planning to get? Also, leave a reason as to why you are getting that system Thanks!
