Entanglement Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I really loose it when i hear and see everyone talking about CS Go and battlefield as being the ultimate hardest first person shooter titles, CS Go is really slow compared to ET, same goes for battlefield, i find them really slow when i just close ET and login to battlefield or CS. If only people can see how fast you have to be on ET. 1 Quote
Haruhi Suzumiya Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Oh trust me, we all agree. Unfortunately it's pointless to try to do anything other than promote, organise, or mod new things for anyone other than the die hard fan base that's still around. People just aren't interested in skill based gameplay before graphics shooters anymore. If you want to do something for the game just stick to things those of us still playing will be happy to see. Do the sorta things that'll keep people playing for years to come over trying to drag new players into it. Outside of that I think simply linking people to a page with the DL and the fact that it's free is all you can do. This topic did get me thinking that F|A should set up a full page dedicated to this. Have a strait forward simple page with a link to all needed DL's for different platforms, common QA's, configs with pictures, some different videos (pub, competition, trick jumping, etc) and some basic but exciting text describing the joy of the game and why we still log in to play it every day. Also links to each F|A server and what makes that mod what it is. Bundle this all up beautifully with one link we can all use to promote the game. This page would have have to be a full page and not a forum topic. If anyone thinks this is a good idea I , and I'm sure many others, will help get all the content needed to make it happen! 6 Quote

Aniky Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) Sadly the biggest problem nowadays with anyone encountering FPS games is that they re used to relatively easy aiming system or other relative stuffs that makes newer games more appealing to wide area of gamers. ET is one of those games that requires a lot of dedication only to reach lowest of levels and if u want to improve, u will need months, even years to get anywhere near mid skill level, not to mention only selected ppl with a lot of dedication can reach high skill, as not only u need to have an amazing aim, but u need to have even better gameplay in order to achive maximum perfection in this game. For that to happen, new players obviously give it a try, but soon realize that this game is made differently than other new aged FPS games are, ET can be somehow in some way compared to old Call of Duty 2, which has similiar gameplay and was actually my first FPS game that really got me hooked into.Other problem apart of skill level in this game is graphic design of game, its pretty outdated and isn't as fancy as the other games are when it comes to graphics and style, whilist most of us old folks are used and actually happy graphics are so simplified, rest of newcomers who would give it a try, would most likely dislike it as again, they are used to mainstream fancy game graphics. Back at time at ETPro we had plenty of tries to make this game more alive, to attract more interest from other communities, but mostly ended up in dead end. Even having TosspoT working over at twitch as caster gave it some reputation but sadly not enough to attract bigger group of newcomers as it gets back to first two issues stated above. Another thing that gets into problem is that the game installation isnt just one click menu advance style as most of others are, but requires from u some other issues, if u want to add 2.6 and 2.6b patches, as well as other common problems which u are facing when u start playing this game from beginning, not to mention, setting up a semi decent config so that your eyes wont bleed out takes some time and knowledge as well. Overall, this game would probably require a minor redesign to maybe make the game more appealing towards other communities in terms of graphics and then a major sponsor or someone with proper connection to promote this game and show it out wide to everyone else to give it a try and not instantly give up on it, getting it into ESL for competitive play requires a certain amout of players and clans to be active, which gets as issue since ETPro is pretty much dead. Many have tried over the years to bring activity up, but most of them sooner or later gave up as they realized it didn't really get any difference, now whats left is just the people who love this game and have friends around as well to play it casually. You have said all, no need to say anything, me and my friends started playing ET in 2015 as new comers, i still play and adore ET, but they didn't last more than two months even with Team-speak and stuff. They went out playing BF 3 and 4, while I'm still proudly here. 1 Quote

Not exactly true. The download here on F|A is a one click install that includes all patches, PB and a minimizer. The part about the CFG is, BUT, I LIKEs that part the best. Being able to modify to my own preference and skill. Not many games let you redefine the way game looks, moves, etc. I think the best for most of us is to know that we lived through and experienced something special that me be physically gone but will always live in our memories and that we are a select group of people that shared that experience And I hate the graphics in most newer games. Too much chaos and hard to focus on your targets and movements 1 Quote
RendeL Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 One thing I have discovered over the years with ET is, that running the show WELL it reguires alot of knowledge and also alot of dedication and time. Everybody can setup a "clan" and rent a server, but to make it actually more far from the the founder status and giving high lvl's to the "trusted" mates who has no idea what to do, you have to really put yourself to the test. Looking at the biggest ones yet there are after about 10 years or so, FA is the place to be, simply for the reason that here is the ONLY anticheat program that actually works. Another thing I could think of is the rules and the execution of those. Cheaters ruined the etpro community already, so hopefully what is left here stays strong. ET looks ugly, but you cant have the stage of experience from other games, especially if you've played since when the connections were not so good. Some still whine about the lag when getting killed by a newbie 1 Quote

BSM Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Unfortunately it won't happen, but I know how you feel. Feel like the only way is if a new game that's just like ET comes into the mix. Playing CSGO and Battlefield quite frankly make me want to shoot myself. I pretty much can't play other FPS now because just about everything else is boring to me, nothing is as exciting as ET. I think there are more than enough people who want to play etpro, it's just a matter of getting people to actually organize stuff outside of just Crossfire.nu. There can't be attraction to the game if the entire etpro scene is lying dormant in pub servers, and the fact that so few people stream/upload the game doesn't help either. No content creators is one of the biggest reasons the game is so unknown. Most people don't even know the game exists. I'm proof of it, as it took me until December 2014 to even know Wolf:ET was a thing. Other than that, as previously mentioned, very few are interested in skill based FPS that take longer than a week to learn the basics. Someone completely new to the game would have no idea what the hell is going on. I think that even if it looks pretty it wouldn't help the scene much, as most people give up playing a couple weeks in since being a noob in this game is so hard. Playing for 2+ years now, a few more months 3 years, and I still have so much room to improve, and that scares a lot of people away from the game. Even though i'm late, I'm just lucky I got into the game when I did. Time to gather some folks for some 3v3's and 6v6's, at least we can still do that. 4 Quote
kajto3 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I agree with everything above. I've put so much faith in this game and I doubt I'll ever give up. But sadly, heard lots of opinions I'm sure, that the game we know and love right now just cannot gain the popularity we're striving for. At the moment, getting many newcomers is not possible. If we want to stick with the original ET, we can slightly increase popularity and keep it alive for longer. It seems the only way is convincing the old farts to keep playing or come back to the game, at least for a couple hours a week. This way, we obviously won't be needing new graphics, engine etc. Letting them know the game is still active would help. But IMO, this can't be achieved without a really reliable AC. Cheaters contributed to the ET's fall to large extent. I wish projects like ETLegacy were more effective. So many people are using their skills to refine the extisting game, for free. Sadly, as we can see, it doesn't help that much... The other option is a huge jump to a completely new game. New graphics, new engine, ac, new requirements. To imagine what I mean, just compare CS 1.6 and CS:GO. That's the jump I mean. I can't see any other alternatives. The original skill based gameplay, as posted above would be kept, but we old shooting system, spreads, knockbacks, hitboxes etc. would obviously have to be replaced (and finally no lags, ehh..). I personally would like such game to come out, even if I didn't play it that much. I'd be concerned if it doesn't kill the original game, but I believe lots of current regulars would still nerd on a couple of servers. The game would have to be running on something like Steam and cost a little. I can't imagine ET with micropayments. If the game were made really well, and fit my PC requirements I would try it out with pleasure. 2 Quote

Totally agreed, would love to see a new game based on ET and constructed on the latest Unreal engine 4, a game that is not very demanding to run, but still have a good graphics just like the CS:GO. Elf Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 It happened one week back in 2004 they had a ET championship for teams FYI Quote
Haruhi Suzumiya Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 If Reflex Arena ever goes open source we'd have the perfect engine to construct a new ET. All of the weapon and movement mechanics are already there paired with the updated graphics. 1 Quote

I'd much rather have it done on the Reflex engine than for it to be done using Unreal Engine, that's for sure. Quote
