I got this weird preference for the Thompson shooting sound over the MP40 as my go to gun, but I don't like being on a winning team too often because it gets boring.

Somehow what I'm thinking if it is even possible is that there is something in the sound packs that could make this possible somehow in the cfg.

If not, thats okay I'll just have to keep picking up the Thompson anytime I'm playing as axis.

i don't know if this is for everyone, but if you push 3 (main weapon button) it should switch between the mp40 and Thompson no matter which side.  It works for me, i don't know about you.

That depends on the ET Mod and/or server.

Thanks for answering my question hell... /thread closed

Haha I have some free time lately and what better way to spend it on ET. I'm an addict to this game so I need to get it out of my system, and disappear again soon because its still just too fun.

I hope you are in good health dare, along with the Canadian and Wolfy. I would be lying if I said I didn't miss this server, and proud of how it has grown.

Anyways make me a special mp40 script that will make it sound like a Thompson dude. So many stackers on my Allied teams its irritating to hear this mp40 gun cling cling cling cling cling cling cling.

Please and Thanks.

This cannot be done in a normal scripting way.

1 Even If you had the mp40 fire sound, you'd still hear thompson.

2 Making thomson get muted will also mute mp40 sound.

3 With script yuo'd have to press binded button every time to run comand for mp40 sound. I've never seen any script that looked similar to your request.

I was thinking about getting into game main files to change code there, but I'll check that after work :)

Not sure, but this might help http://etmods.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=250 :)

You can't. But you can still kill an enemy and pick his weapon ^^

Or disable sounds and listen to music, play rifle sten etc. :P

Messing with original files will lead you to et crashes.

You can add some files inside original et files but you can't edit, replace existing ones. (et will give you errors that either you are missing some files or  your installation is invalid)

Tried changing scripts for thompson so it'd run mp40 sounds but et was downloading file from server as modified mod had changed values.

Tried changing name of mp40_fire.wav to thompson_fire.wav and replacing original thompson fire sound-> gave error about invalid installations since I was changing things inside pak0.pk3 :)

So it can't be done. If you still want I can try making this work in et legacy :P

the reason why there are different sounds for allies/axis (besides the obvious different weapons) was so that you can tell if it was friend of foe firing at close range.

Players are not supposed to change stuff, the game should be the same for everyone (unless there is a setting everyone can change).

First sounds, then what's next? Glowing players or transparent walls texture? :wink

I know you guys said we can't replace files but, what if we replace/edit the mp40 sound file and make it exactly identical as the thompson file (bitrate, length , edit and creation date, etc.).

I don't think the game has the technology to recognize the waveform of the audio file, i think it checks the consistency with other data.

If someone is into cheating, he'll get banned sooner or later...

He asked if it can be done so I'm trying to help in every way I'm able to :)

Also understanding those scripts in there is quite hard, even though some harmless have explanations :)

Hmm I'm using Et Legacy on Mac OSX 10.9.. Sure if that isn't trouble. Just curious but all and all everything is cool.

Done, I'll send you file so no more people will know how to do it. Cause as SunLight said it's a gate to cheating.

Topic to lock :)
