I've always played ET with keyboard. I hear about all these people in game chat using controlers like from an xbox. It's got me wondering if it makes it any easier to play or more difficult(challenging). Just a question i had and was wondering. And was also wondering if it is easire to play with a lower mouse sensitivity setting or a higher setting. I have no problem saying mine is set at 16 (Using a mouse.) Just wondering if I might to calibrate, or try another mouse. I rescently started playing with a new mouse. It's called a Manhattan, and i think it's from walmart. It was laying on the coffee table the other day and i grabbed it and started playing, but i notice at times it spazzes out so to speek. Like it doesnt pickup well.

just curious......thanks!

GODSPEED! :cheers

Controller is great for:

Platforming, third person, classic style games.

Sucky for FPS games on PC. The reason why console FPS are so popular is because most have some form of auto-aim making it easier with a controller.

Some people could probably master a controller, but these people would probably be the type to run circles around you using a mouse as well. For FPS games controllers are difficult and take more time to master. Even then I doubt without the auto aim functionality of consoles your proficiency is half of what it would be using a mouse. ^^ Especially in such an arcadey-shooter like ET.

For sensitivity it's all relative to your comfort. :) I started using a G600 and have it set for high sens... and a shift modifier to lower the sens when I need to be very accurate with aiming.

aiming with a controller is definitely hard to do. pinpoint accuracy is pretty much gone. buuuut, when i used to play ET in my early days, i only had a laptop so i used my 360 controller. and now whenever i play a FPS on a console i just quit. not that i still cant do it but its like going from some professional grade mouse thats still in beta testing and passing it up for the old ball mouse that has lint in the rollers lol.

and also, i like to TJ for speed. thats nearly impossible on a controller. try aiming while trying to jump at the same time.....

and as far as your mouse spazzing out, you just need a new one. my last mouse started to spaz no matter what surface it was on.

I am pretty sure that the best PC player in the world can beat the best Console player in the world in a keyboard vs controller match of quake III or any other fast paced fps.

Like the guy said above, controllers are for platforming games, not fps. It's like playing Wolfenstein ET with a Racing wheel, you are gonna get pwn.

okay guys. i was just curious because ive heard of people using them and some of them run circles around me. i mean im okay...pretty good...i guess...but i was just wondering everyones secret on jay1. ALL YOU GUYS are good. from jay1 to silent....and harcore sounds scary....lol, not gonna lie. But i feel like i cant stay zeroed in at times. The iconic side shift and shoot to avoid being shot....i feel like i cant keep up compared to others.

Another thing ive heard about is setting maxpackets, from what i understand it helps with lag and ping. I dont seem to have problems with connection but once in a blue moon....wondering if this is something i should be concerned with.

i know im young and all but i played back in 2003 when it first came out with my dad and it was all simple....just plug and play, things have changed

Haha, don't get confused I might be the only dumb noob who uses a controller. I don't agree with statements that one is better than the other in generalizations, because the best Halo 2/Halo 3 player would absolutely put a highly accurate PC gamer to shame on said game. While ET was created for PC(and PC players will dominate), and has been a keyboard and mouse game since day one, that doesn't mean you can't use a controller and be good to okay.

A LOT OF PEOPLE joke about using a controller on ET, I think maybe less than 2% use a controller. I do because at first it was the best way to do it with the laptop--without a plug-in mouse. Some people still don't believe me when I say to them that I do, but that's because they suck and I'm terrible. (Marginally better ;) )

But I use a controller and I am better than 50% of people.

Now huge drawbacks are, aiming at long range is almost impossible. Sometimes switching to correct gun/function isn't exactly great.

BUT there are great positives too, I can jump and aim better than PC players, I can aim better at CQB, but I can't vsay as well =/

I have one of the highest accuracies on J2 server's generally/headshots.

TL;DR

Controller is good if you are born and bred and willing to accept downfalls, but keyboard mouse is a equal if not always dominant better configuration.

PS

This is only fair if the one ET controller player get's a say.

lol sike -_- i played ET with controller for about a year and a half. there is no comparing the aim between the two....especially the jump aiming.

That's why I said only for ET, because redhawk is referring to ET. Of course someone in halo will have more experience that one PC gamer, no reason to explain why. It's just the way games are designed with a certain market in mind while in development.

Now let's all be badasses and play Starcraft 2 with a gamepad.

now lets see, Halo 1 and 2 are the only Halo games that ever made it to PC. ol school. i can bet that a skilled FPS gamer on PC can potentially own a Halo gamer with pad on PC. but flip it around and make them both play on console with pads, then the PC gamer is out of his element and down for sure.

im off to play Super Street Fighter IV with my controller, cus those keyboard noobs are gonna fail horribly :P

Edit: i meant if on PC, the PC gamer use mouse and key and the console gamer used controller. then flip it to where they both use controller on console.

LMAO at what some of what you guys use.

For FPS and MMO: Keyboard and Mouse (Roccat ISKU FX with a Logitech G700s)
For racing: Some Saitek dual analog stick thingy. It has a D-pad as well, but I hate that shit. Might as well use a keyboard. :P
