I just tried it a bit. I am running on 64bit Ubuntu.

A few things I noticed:

* Sound works correctly without having to use the et-sdl-sound loader

* FPS is higher. I get around 80 average with 2.60b, but I saw average around 150-170 with 2.71rc3 and at times as high as 250. (250 was causing connection lag.)

* I had to mess with the configs a bit to get them set right.

* Dual monitor doesn't work the way it should. I had the game set at 1920x1080, but it centered it across both monitors. (I had to disable the secondary monitor before starting to play.)

* I played for about 10 minutes on the hardcore server, and it crashed with a segfault. I'll have to give it another try later on.

Ok, so here is basic cfg for Legacy, most cvars are from old one, some are added from Legacy patch.

Everything is sorted through cvar types. All things with // are comments and won't take effect during execing cfg.

Place it into:

Linux "$HOME/.etlegacy" or ~/.etlwolf

Windows in "ETLegacy" path of the users documents folder(C:\Users\Username\Documents\WolfETL\etmain)

To exec cfg after puting it in the right folder, in game, in console type /exec Legacy.cfg

If you have any problems with cfg inform me through xfire(Ischyrion), or on forum pm.

Place it into:

Linux "$HOME/.etlegacy"

Correction: At least on my system, the correct path is ~/.etlwolf

I noticed that the only thing that was in .etlwolf when I first started it was a new etkey and a legacy folder which contained a basic etconfig.cfg file. It didn't run because I didn't have the basic pk3 files. What I ended up doing so I didn't have 2 copies of all the maps and mods, was to copy the legacy folder from .etlwolf to .etwolf and then create a symlink from .etlwolf to .etwolf.

EDIT: OK, I noticed on their wiki that for 2.71rc3 and before it is ~/.etlwolf. This is the latest precompiled version, which is what I downloaded. rc4 and later will use .etlegacy. I'll have to try downloading and building from source to see if the crashing I had earlier is fixed, since rc3 was released a couple months ago and there have been quite a few changes since then.

I felt one thing, while downloading files to get into game, dl speed wasn't as before around 600kb/s it got be full net speed i had 1,3mb/s, might be cause of this patch.

And I think Et Legacy does not detect et 2.60b files and directories...... So that's why it creates its own.

Th3o - are you using rc3 or did you download source and build it? I have Ubuntu 13.10 and used the rc3 files, and it crashed on me after playing for 10 minutes, but that's the only time I've tried it yet.

here's my experience after playing etlegacy for about an hour on win7 with a core2 duo and integrated graphics, using my existing cfg with medium graphics settings:

good:
graphics look much better and run smoother, not as choppy
the installer was very nice, it found my old etkey and i didn't have to **** around too much to get the game to run, it just worked
alt tab works, it's nice to be able to minimize et
it auto detected the best resolution to display the game at on my monitor

bad:
the announcer's voice is super quiet even though all other effects and voice chats are at normal volume
i have to reload my cfg every time i restart the game. should i be using a different/new one for legacy?
mouse cursor is upside down in menus and limbo screen
screen is off to the right by 1/2" even after vid restart, leaving a black space on the left and cutting off the right side of the screen. but this corrects itself after hitting alt tab.
i was pumped to see an immediate fps increase, i usually get a stable max of 45. with etL it seems to be stable at 65 or so. but, on certain maps, the fps gets really unstable and drops down to 25 at times.

looks like there are a few problems to troubleshoot before this is really playable for me, which i'm hesitant to do after spending so much time optimizing my game on 2.60. I'll keep messing with it though, it looks really promising. i guess it will come down to how much help i'm able to get on their forum since there isn't a lot of info out there about etL yet.

I liked the way that ETLegacy runs, Very smooth mouse movement when You go to limbo,

Instead of jerky with regular ET.  Profile and map downloads are saved in My Documents on Windows.

When you Host Game, You can play maps with mod.  But I have a very large problem with ETLegacy...

I can't easily get a kill.  There's something with aiming and movement that's not right.

Check the  mouse settings in Th3ory's cfg: http://fearless-assassins.com/topic/56017-et-legacy-271/?p=488074 .  There is a setting for raw mouse or using the OS drivers:

"=====

//Others//

seta sensitivity "1"

seta in_nograb "0"

seta in_mouse "1" //-1windows default mouse routines, 1= use //direct input

seta in_keyboardDebug "0"

====="

( I wonder what "in_mouse 0" does, as only -1 and 1 are noted in the //comment )

ET Legacy also has forums and other support mechanisms.

I got simple installer of rc3. Maybe I have Et working without any problems cause I remade kernel :P

If you have any questions just write here, I'm really into ET L lately so I think I'll be able to answer :)

@theory: thanks for the suggestions, i'll try em out!

i noticed that the directories are a little different, but assumed my cfg should be in etmain. should it be somewhere else?

ps i like the announcer :P i don't think the game is the same without hearing "dynamite planted", "the tank is over the bridge" etc. :)

There are 3 et mains :P

1 is in old et 2.60b folder,

2 another is in the et legacy installation

3 the right one is in the documents on windows(read above or at the 1st page....)

(quote if you couldn't find it)

Place it into:

Linux "$HOME/.etlegacy" or ~/.etlwolf

Windows in "ETLegacy" path of the users documents folder(C:\Users\Username\Documents\WolfETL\etmain)

I think I'll stay with 2.60b until they really improve something important for me (e.g. fps) and probably it's not even compatible with etpro

I tried it on Linux as well, and same fps. After all if with xreal I got only few fps more that's what I expected. Probably since in my config I have set every possible cvar, that's why, I play always with the same settings.

Many players set only a few things in their config, and the rest is random or what happens to be set by default, so they can see changes and think it's because of the new engine (imho). Or just my pc is utter sh*t (which actually is) and I can't get more fps from that thing...
