Ol Smoke Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 You are on a shopping trip for a gift for someone. You go into a store and find the perfect gift. But, you only have a $5.00 bill in your pocket, and the gift costs $8.55. Moments later you walk out of the store with the gift. You did not steal it. So how did you buy the gift? (Remember the 55 cents) ***you did not use a credit card either Quote
Spanky Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 What a conundrum...My brain..hurts..The gift must have .. wait Quote
draperion Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 As a polite Canadian gentleman, I asked the person nearby to lend me a simple $3.55. He said no, so I mugged him for it! 1 Quote

Ol Smoke Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 I even gave you guys a clue.!! This is a question from one of my mensa tests. Quote
Chuckun Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Anyone who does not say 'I would spend my only $5 donating to FA' will be removed from the clan without notice. Muahahaha 4 Quote
Ol Smoke Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) SPOILER do not read if you don't want to know the answer. The other $3.55 came from the change you had in your pocket. The question never said you didn't have any other money, just that you had only one bill. These are the types of questions they ask you on the mensa tests. Some are really hard but others just make you think in a different way than you are used to thinking. Edited December 20, 2013 by Ol' Smoke Quote

SiD Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) You only have a $5 bill? So then would it be logical to say that you have the rest in change? Toonie, loonie, 2 quarters and a nickle? (Yuh brah, I Canadian). Given that this is a logic question, that would have to be the answer. Otherwise there was some sort of haggling going on. Edit: Apparently the question has an answer already lol Lrn2readSidney. Edited December 20, 2013 by SiD the Vicious Quote

Leader RedBaird Posted December 21, 2013 Leader Posted December 21, 2013 But, you only have a $5.00 bill in your pocket, and the gift costs $8.55. I thought you might be walking around with some money already in your hand or anywhere that was not a pocket...Part of this puzzle is the imprecision of English. Quote
