It depends in which server you play too. I have played alot on silent1 server in the past and atm on hardcore, and i see more medics revive/heal at hardcore than on silent1. also it's a whole different story when you compare to FA1 to silent.

I play almost always medic too, and when i see someone asking for revive or heal i will do so, but in the meantime i'm also very busy with killing my enemies so, i might oversee it sometimes :P

If you play on #2 then you more than likely to see me lay down med packs or ammo or smoke right up untill i get to the point that i begin playing like i did many years ago. None the less, and everyone reading this should know that.... Medics MUST and should REVIVE when possible their team players.

As i am sure many who are currently playing on the server have passed through et pro and do understand how important a medic is. If they dont revive or support engi's then the objective will not be completed.

Team Work...its all that is required... Team Work .... !

Laying Medi packs should be an automatic action, but us being humans we can/are selfish and some players (I'm not saying all) don't heal or revive, but then this isn't limited to medic class.  I personally play medic 90% of the time and do try to heal, not always successfully and a lot of the time end up dying right after I've revived :)

I wish there was a top reviver award at the end of a map just like top fragger. I would imagine that would encourage some people to heal more. I also wish there was a top gibber so people would actually gib the dead!

I rarely come across someone that will provide cover when i heal or throw medpacs to them. Same thing when I give ammo. But part of game in Jaymod so no biggie.

You haven't played with me. I tend to engage objective when the time limit is counting down to about 5mins. Obviously that means that no-one rushes the map so as to not complete the map in lets say 2mins or 3mins when the map time slot is 20 or so mins.

How about that ? Not bad for someone playing with cg_novoicechats 1 :P

Ya that would b nice Geoff, though I'd get gibs everytime. I be the pro gibberz. I really have no idea why people don't always gib 90% of the time. Also from what I've seen silent mod counts gibbing into your accuracy, which is tight. I've seen a gibbing award on a couple servers back in the day so it can be done, when I last played regularly 2 yrs or so ago.

Here is an ironic quote from http://www.enemy-territory.net/basicskills.html which I found while looking for something else!

I used to be a good medic with mediocre shooting skills. I'd get a lot of revives, but not that many kills. Then I started working on my aiming so I went rambo medic more often and then I might only have like 10 revives per game, but a good number SMG kills. People noticed me a lot more, and the crazy thing is some people would say, "Wow, you sure are a good medic!" HUH? I wasn't even doing my job! It's unfortunate that all the dedicated medics and engies out there go unnoticed, but I guess fragging is just more obvious and people consider good shooters very rare.

That's great and all, but this would be far more appreciated if you were a "Big Boobs Nurse".

I could never understand why medics (and f-ops) always lay out just enough to top themselves off while running out of the spawn. Especially where the spawn is a good 10-20 seconds away from the normal battle areas.

An example- Allies run out of 2nd spawn on Goldrush. Usual battle is at the bridge. Does it hurt to lay out some packs for the rest of your team that are coming out? You will usually be powered back up by the time you get to the bridge.

ET stopped being about teamwork and objective play years ago when the raters hit the scene. Even with SL gone, it's all about the frags. Don't expect much to change in that mentality any time soon.

Actually it were raters who started systematically doing this med/ fdop pack farming while running out of spawn, especially it was done in those maps that have long walk after you die, like goldrush allies second spawn. As you can all remember sl used xp per minute. So forth, the most efficient way to get high sl rate was never just about frags. This particular tactic was still quite commonly used in something like 2006-2007. Raters noticed that it would boost your map rating about 2-4 ppm. For instance, if you were a top 17 rater it would boost you even to top 10 if you managed to do it correctly. All and all, it quite quickly became "whoring" and raters started making those "whore" videos, were one aspect was raters running out of spawn leaving that trail on med/ fdop packs behind them. Although you could still see it happen for a long time if there were no one speccing some particular raters etc.

As an idea Doc's point is more than valid. That extra 15hp could many times win you the fight, or in my case I find myself looking for ammo  right after every spawn. It would make your team more efficient and affective. But because of that mental image of a whore most of the people who have rated at least a little bit never do it, no matter how silly it may seem.

There is no specific rule. But if you're a medic do your job as such and not pass along your team mates giving you health to yourself and ignoring the other to increase your stats, that's for 'maricas' :p

Gotta love those medics who heal nobody but rage because field ops dont give ammo <3 Ah, et rambos.

It's not something we can enforce with rules though, sometimes you genuinely don't notice someone asking for meds..

As for what Nani and Chuckun said, I agree, you cannot enforce that kind of rule. The rule would be impossible to oversee and enforce. How do you judge the difference between someone giving 3 med packs instead of 4. And tell him he should have given 4 there was still time, which the player cannot possible know without having wh. Common sense has some leeway and enforcing this would make it narrowly enforced rule that would also significantly increase the amount of rules that players would have to know before joining fa-servers.

Also in pub, especially in adre servers, you are usually a sitting duck if you are giving med packs. People want them in bad situations, they do not cover for u, they just concentrate f-pushing and knifing you "give me more, give more". At which point u are praying please don't let anyone come now. Although, once again I agree that med packs should be given, it just is once again impossible to force, coz of differences what people see as acceptable risk situations. For instance, many perceive that medics should just run and revive in any situations no matter where. In my opinion just running in and killing yourself and reviving someone in a situation were he is instantaneously killed has nothing to do with common sense.

But once again, what I cannot understand is not reviving in a normal situation, and just running past someone in front of u. Of course, in reviving we have to take out of consideration those precarious situations where you have to be able to give a benfit of doubt, and concentrate on clear situations. In those you should always revive.

As for pub servers, Chuckun also gave a good point, sometimes you just miss someone. For instance, I play with voice chat off, coz of the spam. So forth, sometimes it is easy to miss someone and overlook the radar in the midst of the fight. Al thought, in principal it is a common sense that should always try to revive if possible.

One of the best ways how you can deal with medic who never revives you or a fdops that never gives you ammo. Is not to heal them or not to give them ammo. It usually does the trick and even selfish people learn the fine line. The fine line that moral has even in the normal life what you should do if you also need something sometimes. Of course, once again you have to take in consideration that you cannot always give ammo or health, since you bar is empty.

Also as a last point, people play et for different reasons. Many people who play on pub servers are there exactly for the reason that even though it is a team game they are not there to play for the team, but to have fun. And what is fun is once again a debateble question that varies depending who you ask.

imho it depends on the situation:

---------------------

- private server / scrims (or public servers where playing 'for the obj' is enforced)

goal = your team wins (makes sense only on stopwatch - or symmetrical maps like baserace, ctf maps in general) because you can't 'win' if you play a map only once.

In this case, you don't play for yourself or for fun, you play for your team, so you do anything you think is useful (according to your skill and knowledge, and if you can't think fast you still make mistakes).

You decide *if* and when and *who* you have to revive or give medipacks to, etc. (no, it's not always good in all situations)

---------------------

- public server

goal = having fun, f-ing around, rating or whatever you want (and maybe if you can, and if it doesn't harm too much your own goal, make sure everyone has fun and not only you)

but the goal is not being a private nurse for random nubs who die every 2 seconds, and even if you revive them they are going to die again and again, and the goal is not playing for someone else's goal (want to play obj in public server? good for u but please don't ask for medic all the time, good medics will always revive you if it's possible)

I think that is as egocentric as being medic and not healing

another thing I hate is when they shoot you to ask for ammo in servers with ff on
