detoren
what rate do you use do in console /rate 45000 i think thats max there 20000 is ok but better safe than sure maybe you use a nr thats to low that makes you lag to . also a high fps makes you lag if i make a stable 300 fps (frames per second ) it always shows connection interrupted, ppl say the human eye can only see 60 fps but i can see the diffrence between 76 and 125 higher than 125 i cant see the diffrence. PHANTASM
Many people don't like big servers. some people prefer the hardcore server, or the ETPub server. or the Jay 3 Euro server. Jay 1 does not have fixed rate. With autorate on, you may get 31000 one day and 26000 the next time you play. The server will assign you whatever rate is best for you that day. Try these commands in your console for less lag. You should see an immediate improvement. /cg_autorate 1 /pb_sleep
Administrators daredevil Posted August 29, 2010 Administrators Share Posted August 29, 2010 set cg_autorate "1" //lets server assign your rate set cl_maxpackets "22" //should match or be half of your maxfps setting, 44 would be fine but would lag more than 22 set com_maxfps "44" //44 is good for older computers. Higher fps will add lag. 43 is lower fps limit on many servers set cg_lagometer "1" //lets you see your lag on screen set com_hunkMegs "128" //if you have more than 1GB RAM use 192 instead set com_zoneMegs "64" //assigns more memory for loading the map set pb_system "0" //reduces punkbuster lag set pb_security "0" //reduces punkbuster lag set pb_sleep "500" //reduces punkbuster lag cl_maxpackets use min 30. You don't need 'set' for PB commands since they are not ingame commands. You can directly modify it in PB client config. com_maxfps = 44 laggy moves. You need to play at least at 62 FPS. Couple of map requires 156Mb hunkmegs. Den of Lion and few others.

I took most of the stuff out of the post above to make it easier and less controversial. I have my pb commands in the autoexec file with set (seta actually but did not want to encourage seta here) and they work fine, did not know that they do not require the set command. Guess it does not matter but good to know. The funny thing is that 44 is less laggy than 76 on Jay1. I play there all the time and the lag prevents me from getting a steady 76. It will bounce from 50-76 as I play. And I am using Linux and have 2007 computer and really low ping. But I can get a steady 44, so I use that, with cg_maxpackets 44. If I play on the smaller servers I can get 125 fps. I use 256 MB in my config actually, because I have 2.5GB of RAM, but I thought 128 was fine. Did not know they had 156MB maps now. I will remember that. Maybe I should allocate even more RAM than 256MB. 512 maybe.
FinZeroX
I've liked NQ servers and ETPub 'cause they have a decent ping here in Finland. I prob should take a closer look at the ping/fps on every server to determine the best connections.
FunkybananA
Thanks for help (detoren, PHANTASM & daredevil) . Appreciated! Must set those commands when I get back home from school. Never actually knew some of those commands, but what do they say? As you get older, you get wiser, eh?
FinZeroX
Maybe I should try those cmds too

Griperrr
your graphics card is probably out of date... turn down all graphics with-in the game, and try it then. F!A also has there own options/settings were you can go in and mess around with graphics.. to help your system run 'almost' lag free. Clan Friend SunLight Posted August 31, 2010 Clan Friend Share Posted August 31, 2010 cl_maxpackets 100 should be ok with any fps since it's the maximum. You don't have to change it to lower values if you lower your com_maxfps, cl_maxpackets just tells your client not to send a cmd if your previous one was sent less than (1000/cl_maxpackets) milliseconds before. (So for example if you have 125 fps and 100 maxpackets you actually send less packets than a player with 76 fps and 100 or 76 maxpackets). To check how many packets you are sending you could try /cl_showsend 1 but careful because it spams your console, set it to 0 after you check! Probably you don't need this command at all and i forgot how the read the output of that command anyway). Generally you can see if it's you lagging or if it's the server from the top part of the lagometer. Big yellow spikes generally mean server lag, but if you use a negative timenudge then you can have extrapolating snapshots too and some yellow. Normally it should be almost all blue. And also you could lag because of your isp / physical distance from the server etc.
FunkybananA
Yeah, have been thinking about it. And should also try some cmdcombos to see which will work. Yesterday it didn't lag too much and so my gaming got way better. Thanks for help though! Must try those also!
