  2. Hey GFX team (and other lovely members)! I've decided it's time for a new signature, and I thought that I'd hand it over to you guys for once, since your skills are amazing. I don't have a VIP membership, so the signature size should be 600 x 130. Personally, I love photography, technology, anime, and Hatsune Miku... But if you haven't seen, for the past 5 years, I have had nothing except for Miku themed signatures and profile pictures. I am hoping to have either a sensual or angry Hatsune Miku image, with some console text or futuristic imagery transparent. The only text I'd like is "=F|A=Xernicus", though you can add some more if you'd like. I'd like the foreground color to be teal/aquamarine/turquoise. I hope this isn't too specific! I can ease up on the details if this is too much. Thank you so much!
  3. Amazing and fascinating breakthroughs and discoveries are made everyday. I bring to you another subject that I hope peaks your interest. Discuss it. What platforms would be applicable for this kind of technology. Brainstorm guys! A computer interface that can decipher the thoughts of people who are unable to communicate could revolutionize the lives of those living with completely locked-in syndrome, according to a new paper publishing January 31st, 2017 in PLOS Biology. Counter to expectations, the participants in the study reported being "happy," despite their extreme condition. The research was conducted by a multinational team, led by Professor Niels Birbaumer, at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering in Geneva, Switzerland. Patients suffering from complete paralysis, but with preserved awareness, cognition, and eye movements and blinking are classified as having locked-in syndrome. If eye movements are also lost, the condition is referred to as completely locked-in syndrome. In the trial, patients with completely locked-in syndrome were able to respond "yes" or "no" to spoken questions, by thinking the answers. A non-invasive brain-computer interface detected their responses by measuring changes in blood oxygen levels in the brain. The results overturn previous theories that postulate that people with completely locked-in syndrome lack the goal-directed thinking necessary to use a brain-computer interface and are, therefore, incapable of communication. Extensive investigations were carried out in four patients with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) -- a progressive motor neuron disease that leads to complete destruction of the part of the nervous system responsible for movement. The researchers asked personal questions with known answers and open questions that needed "yes" or "no" answers including: "Your husband's name is Joachim?" and "Are you happy?." They found the questions elicited correct responses in seventy percent of the trials. Professor Birbaumer said: "The striking results overturn my own theory that people with completely locked-in syndrome are not capable of communication. We found that all four patients we tested were able to answer the personal questions we asked them, using their thoughts alone. If we can replicate this study in more patients, I believe we could restore useful communication in completely locked-in states for people with motor neuron diseases." The question "Are you happy?" resulted in a consistent "yes" response from the four people, repeated over weeks of questioning. Professor Birbaumer added: "We were initially surprised at the positive responses when we questioned the four completely locked-in patients about their quality of life. All four had accepted artificial ventilation in order to sustain their life, when breathing became impossible; thus, in a sense, they had already chosen to live. What we observed was that as long as they received satisfactory care at home, they found their quality of life acceptable. It is for this reason, if we could make this technique widely clinically available, it could have a huge impact on the day-to-day life of people with completely locked-in syndrome." In one case, a family requested that the researchers asked one of the participants whether he would agree for his daughter to marry her boyfriend 'Mario'. The answer was "no," nine times out of ten. Professor John Donoghue, Director of the Wyss Center, said: "Restoring communication for completely locked-in patients is a crucial first step in the challenge to regain movement. The Wyss Center plans to build on the results of this study to develop clinically useful technology that will be available to people with paralysis resulting from ALS, stroke, or spinal cord injury. The technology used in the study also has broader applications that we believe could be further developed to treat and monitor people with a wide range of neuro-disorders." The brain-computer interface in the study used near-infrared spectroscopy combined with electroencephalography (EEG) to measure blood oxygenation and electrical activity in the brain. While other brain-computer interfaces have previously enabled some paralyzed patients to communicate, near-infrared spectroscopy is, so far, the only successful approach to restore communication to patients suffering from completely locked-in syndrome. Source : PLOS PS . I feel bad for Mario.
  4. I have decided to give it another shot, with Ubuntu 16.04 alongside it. By using Ubuntu I no longer wil be jeopardizing my SteamOS's integrity by attempting to DL pkgs without the knowledge to do so! Now I need a new Steam desktop auth. setup. Anyone have any recommendations for a Steam mobile auth. app alternative for Ubuntu??
  5. So this is a post about what you think will be careers in the future, spaceship tech, cyborgs,Star Destroyers (Not Star Wars Destroyers) and else! I am going to start first (logic) For careers, l think we will have some of the following: Atmosphere Technician: Primary duty is to look the terraforming the planet, and looks for any imperfections in the newly made ecosystem. Gravity Technician: Primary duty is to make sure the artificial planet core is doing its job of making gravity. Cooperates with the person above. Shield Monitor: A person whose duty is to make sure that all ship shields are up and running. If there is a fault within the shield system, he will call a spacechanic to check the damage. If the damage is too big, then the ship will automatically implant coordinates for the nearest space station in the captain's brain. And that is all l can think of about careers. Moving on to weaponry! Weaponry will include: Fully functioning Plasma based cannons Plasmite (Kinda like thermite but instead made of plasma) Ion cannon (Used for breaching hulls, can breach a hole through the entire ship) Lasers (No need for explaining) Sub-Space nuclear warheads And a LOT of things more Technology will probably include this: Cloning FTL Engines Instant crop seed Whew, my head is spinning (l am NOT possessed, for a note) of all the things! Post yours today and get a free nothing!
  6. Hello everyone! First of all, I'm not sure if I need to open this topic at 'Science & Space', 'Technology' or 'Food and Drink', so this topic could be on the wrong section, sorry. Tomorrow I have to do a debate. The topic is 'Genetically modified food is healthy', do you agree or disagree? I have to collect some good arguments and articles to form a good opinion about this topic. So, I want to ask you guys to give your opinion with good arguments and eventually an article to base your arguments on. That'd really help me. Kind regards, Gaskarth c:
  7. I love playing PC games with an xbox controller. I have a xbox to PC adapter and it makes gameplay so much easier. Am I the only one around here who does this?
  8. Since I should try to be more active on the forums, I started this topic. iOS users, let's share together what tweaks/apps you have downloaded on your jailbroken device!
  9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wAvxQfusWU hope soon all tires will be replaced by this one, then no vehicle need shock absorbers or air suspension
  10. hi my dear mates, As i have told in my application about myself , i just love cars . I am thinking that i know a lot about cars ... my classmates too think the same . But i JUST NOW REALIZED THAT I know only a tiny drop of information from the mighty ocean . So what i thought was that i could rather start putting up topics about cars and bikes . So here's my first topic ... there's been lots of innovation in automobile sector ever since the days of benz and dailmer .... SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK IS THE BEST INNOVATION THAT HAS TRANSFORMED OR WILL TRASFORM CARS . ............................................................................................ rajaah thunder

  12. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrYZDWuBptI Google has confirmed it is working on an Android 4.0 update for the Samsung Nexus S and other Android devices. Director of Android operating system User Experience Matias Duarte told Engadget that Google is. "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically it should work for any 2.3 device." Motorola confirmed to TechRadar that the Motorola Razr will launch in the UK with Android 2.3, but that there will be an update to 4.0in 2012. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Roboto Among the first new features championed by Google at the Hong Kong media event was a brand new typeface for Android in the shape of the easy-to-read "Roboto." Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich System Bar and Action Bar At the launch event, Google showcased a host of virtual buttons that appear at the bottom of the screen in some apps and allow users access to areas of the device like phone and contacts. These are located in the System Bar - present in all apps - and enables you to navigate instantly to Back, Home, and Recent Apps. Virtual buttons are present across all apps, but can be dimmed by applications for full-screen viewing. You can also access the contextual options for each app in the Action Bar at the top of the screen. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich voice control Android 4.0 introduces new voice input engine, You can dictate the text you want, for as long as you want. After dictating, you can tap the underlined words to replace them from a list of suggestions. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich multitasking Multi-tasking has also been given a boost and with ICS it's easier to see which apps you've been using recently. If you decide you're done with using one, you can easily flick it away to close. Google says it has made multitasking "even easier and more visual" on Android 4.0. The Recent Apps button lets users jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar. The list pops up to show thumbnail images of apps used recently — tapping a thumbnail switches to the app. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Face Unlock Perhaps the most 'Star Trek' of all the new Android 4.0 features is a new piece of functionality called Face Unlock which, as the name suggests, unlocks your handset based on facial recognition tech. You can also do more without unlocking. As in iOS 5 you can jump straight to the camera. You can also pull down the notifications window. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Home Screen folders Like iOS before it, Android is now getting home screen folders too. You can group apps or shortcuts together and, as with iOS, you can do this just by dragging icons on top of one another. From the All Apps launcher, you can now drag an app to get information about it or uninstall it should you wish. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich notifications Notifications have also been improved. On larger devices - tablets - the updates appear in the System Bar, while on phones the notifications roll down from the top of the screen as before. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich favorites tray On phones and other "smaller screen devices" (that's Google speak), there's now a customisable favorites tray. You can put anything you want here - apps, folders, shortcuts - whatever you want - check out this screen: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich widgets As in Honeycomb, you can now resize widgets on phones too. As in that OS, the widgets in 4.0 are designed to be far more interactive, enabling you to flick through appointments, play music and more. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich data Android 4.0 includes new graphical displays so you can see how much data you're using and how much you've used over Wi-Fi or cellular. You can also see the amount of data used by each running application. Warning levels can also be specified, as well as determining how much background data apps can use. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich camera Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich also brings some much-needed improvements to Google's camera UI, which the company says it has been working on with Samsung. ICS devices, and the newly announced Samsung Galaxy Nexus in particular, will have 1080p video, zero shutter lag, a new picture-stitching panorama mode, easier sharing and Instagram-esque filters. In the panorama mode, you can start taking the picture and then move the camera. The phone assembles the full range of continuous imagery into a single panoramic photo. "When taking pictures, continuous focus, zero shutter lag exposure, and decreased shot-to-shot speed help capture clear, precise images," says Google. "Stabilized image zoom lets users compose photos and video in the way they want, including while video is recording. For new flexibility and convenience while shooting video, users can now take snapshots at full video resolution just by tapping the screen as video continues to record." There's also built-in face detection as well as tap to focus. There are also various editing tools included, too, while there's sharing via Google+, message, Bluetooth, email or Picasa upload. There's also an improved gallery widget, as well as new album layout with larger thumbnails. Thankfully you can also now take screenshots - this is going to make our job a whole lot easier! For video, there's also Live Effects you can apply to distort faces or alter backgrounds. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich apps The People app does what many manufacturers have been doing on Android for ages - bringing together various social networking feeds into one place, This offers richer profile information, including a large profile picture, phone numbers, addresses and accounts, status updates, and a new button for connecting on integrated social networks. The Calendar app has also been updated to bring together different calendars, while the email app can now autocomplete responses and is able to store oft-used replies. Android 4.0 now also supports visual voicemail. The web browser is also improved - especially in terms of speed - and now allows up to 16 windows. You can now sync it with Google Chrome and the browser supports offline browsing - it can save versions of web pages you choose. There's also a new NFC-based app called Android Bump, which allows two phones to exchange a wealth of information, just by holding them together. It can be used to share websites, maps and start games. For the Moment Google Nexus One come with this update as default.
