Part of sinti's log file:

..44 PFDs found
...hardware acceleration found
...PIXELFORMAT 9 selected
...creating GL context: succeeded
...making context current: succeeded
...WARNING: fullscreen unavailable in this mode
...setting mode -1: 1440 900 FS
WARNING:...changing depth not supported on Win95 < pre-OSR 2.x
...calling CDS: failed, bad mode

My etconsole.log looks similar to this, except that mine is set to a lower resolution, 1280 x 960  Is your resolution set too high for your graphics system?

I see that "WARNING:...changing depth not supported on Win95 < pre-OSR 2.x "  in a lot of Help_Me posts.  Did you set ET turn run in win95 compatibility mode?

...setting mode -1: 1280 960 FS
...using desktop display depth of 32
...calling CDS: ok
...registered window class
...created window@0,0 (1280x960)
Initializing OpenGL driver
...getting DC: succeeded
...GLW_ChoosePFD( 32, 24, 0 )
...215 PFDs found

I will have to interleave the lines of our two files to show the differences more clearly

I have a complex reply already typed out and ready to go, because I have a hunch of what the problem may be... But first, make sure you don't have any compatibility modes turned on except for "Run this program as an Administrator". Compatibility settings like Windows 95/98/XP/etc are not needed.

Don't think it's a graphics driver problem. It would be crashing earlier if it were.

I don't like this part of the log, either:  "trying next higher reso..."

...calling CDS: failed, bad mode
...trying next higher resolution: failed, bad mode
...restoring display settings

It ET has a resolution problem, it usually reverts to a Lower standard resolution and trys that, I believe.

Nope, it goes higher since it crashed on the minimum specified in the config. I would need to see the etconfig and dig through unsafe values to see what all it's trying though.

I am puzzled by other differences :

His ...setting mode -1: 1440 900 FS (resos both found in Silent menu...)
Mine...setting mode -1: 1280 960 FS (...but not in standard ET options)
(not sure where this 1280x960 ?? SEE last code-window came from, not finding in cfg files )

His ... 44 PFDs found
Mine...215 PFDs found

His ...PIXELFORMAT 9 selected
Mine...PIXELFORMAT 32 selected

OK, both resolutions are found in FA downloaded files in the style of "```````````````````````,pk3"

exec 3.cfg //3 = 640x480
exec 4.cfg //4 = 800x600
exec 5.cfg //5 = 960x720
exec 6.cfg //6 = 1024x768
exec 7.cfg //7 = 1152x864
exec 8.cfg //8 = 1280x1024
exec 9.cfg //9 = 1600x1200
exec 10.cfg //10 = 2048x1536

exec 12.cfg //12 = 1280x960  == mine
exec 13.cfg //13 = 1440x900  == his

exec 14.cfg //14 = 1680x1050
exec 15.cfg //15 = 1920x1080

I believe you're getting /r_mode and pixelformat confused. Two very different things.

/r_mode is the Quake3 engine's resolution setting. pixelformat aka PFD (Pixel format descriptor) is part of a graphics card's instruction set. Thus, the PFD's available would of course vary depending on the graphics chip and what instruction sets it supports. It would stand without reason that a discrete graphics card would support more instructions and be able to execute them quicker than onboard graphics. In this case, sinti is using onboard graphics which would explain the reduced instruction sets that the OpenGL provided by Intel's driver supports.

EDIT: Regarding your res RedB, that would be  too confusing to discuss here. One issue at a time. :) Would be happy to discuss in another topic, in PM or on Discord.

My Biggest Mistake is that I keep forgetting that his machine is a laptop.

Thanks, Xernicus, for explaining how confused I was.  :)

You can hide my posts here that are off-topic or confusing the issue.  :D

U have to put your silent.dat file in your silent folder not your etmain folder.
