Xernicus Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I found this article, and I was quite happy to find our humble ET listed upon the ranks of the Top 50 Best PC FPS games of all time. The reviewers, Rock Paper Shotgun aren't known to just hand out praise to games and their developers, which is probably why many people and hardcore gamers alike share their affinity for the RPS crew and their rating team. But to keep things short and sweet, let's get to the review: "The grandaddy of the objective-led multiplayer matches which are popular in many of today’s online shooters, but Splash Damage’s spin-off from Return To Castle Wolfenstein has a rare focus on escalation and push-and-pull team battles that the unlock-focused mania of many latter-day alternatives has thrown out with the willy-waving bathwater. Sure, you rank up in Enemy Territory, but you rank up within the match, for the sake of the match. Military shooters – at that point tending to favour a World War II setting – were popular but staid scoreboard affairs, which W:ET turned into micro-action movies starring a cast with diverse class abilities and set within interlinking missions. Hugely ambitious as online shooters go, but unlike its follow-ups Quake Wars and Brink, it didn’t have eyes bigger than its stomach – its raw essentials of team-based, classed-based combat are pristine."You can read the rest of the review, and all 50 games listed here at this link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/01/13/the-50-best-fps-on-pc/The contents of the review, quoted, are copyright of Rock, Paper, Shotgun and Alec Meer (Senior RPS editor), dated January 13th, 2017. 4 Quote
CheepHeep Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 My beloved ET still making its way in the world. :') Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted January 15, 2017 Leader Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) They are a little out of date with their, " but you rank up within the match, for the sake of the match. " It sounds like they read reviews of the earliest, un-modded game. Imagine playing only 6(?) maps and no xp-save. The modders kept it popular with us. (bless their "nerdy" souls) I should thank the developers for making the game moddable, too! Edited January 15, 2017 by RedBaird credit the ancestors 1 Quote
Alphaloki Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 But alas, let's get to the review: I think you meant "at last". "Alas" has a totally different meaning https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/alas Glad to see ET is remembered and gets the popularity it rightly deserves ! 1 Quote
Xernicus Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 I think you meant "at last". "Alas" has a totally different meaning I don't think 'at last' is quite what I was looking for, but that's a good catch! I am disappointed that it's not #1 though? xD (Even if they say that there is no real ranking of that list) But regardless, it looks like my English shall forever be in a constant state of improvement. So thank you Alpha for catching that! (I am editing my original post to correct the grammar mistake) Quote

So thank you Alpha for catching that! Well for us ET is and shall forever be the #1 FPS game, that's for sure I'm still dreaming about the day they make a clone of it with a modern 3D Engine but I have a feeling it will never come true. In their list, the original DOOM is #3, Half-Life #2 and Quake #1. I don't want to sound like an old grumpy grammar nazi though Quote
