Bean Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Occasionally we see an engineer, on the team defending, planting "defensive dynomites." It's a twofold strategy, aimed at damaging or killing attackers advancing towards objectives, or forcing the attackers to delay their movements in that quarter (for fear of being obliterated). In my opinion, it's a misguided, dodgy practice. I was curious if most felt thar way, thus the poll. Dodgy how? 1) It rarely works. Very few of these defensive dynos kill the enemy. The effort and time spent would be better applied to a more active defence of the objectives. 2) It causes more harm to the defenders. Defensive dynos are often placed (misplaced) in area where the defenders must also operate. Therefore, the engie is not only risking the lives of his compatriots; he's also denying the use of an important area for his own team's defensive operations. What do you think? Quote
RendeL Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Also hiding behind the corners and jumping out from there to kill your enemy should not be allowed! 1 Quote
Leader RedBaird Posted December 10, 2016 Leader Posted December 10, 2016 Bean's Fav Server is HardCore, which has Friendly Fire set on. The dynamite charges are much more dangerous to teammates there. 2 Quote
RendeL Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 I know. Still it doesn't make any sense to even suggest such thing. If there is a dyna, dont go near it, simple is that. Quote

Mr.Karizmatic Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 i find it cool. i use it alot when i get a chance to be eng. but if its teamkilling then it is not good. but i like it cause engineer doesnt have much ways to kill i feel so its just mind over rambo meds 1 Quote

Platinum VIP -=HipKat=- Posted December 10, 2016 Platinum VIP Posted December 10, 2016 I agree with Bean. It's just dumb. Like poison gas. It's like poison gas. It rarely kills anyone but always blocks your view of Incoming enemies Quote

Jeepers, tough crowd! Forums are for discussing topics of interest, no? Anyway, that was my point above. Put another way, since defenders must avoid their teammates' badly-placed defensive dynos, then they can't properly defend important areas. Here's a specific example, which I see from time to time. In Special Delivery - a Hardcore favourite - sometimes defending Axis engies plant dynos in the control room, or the non-elevator hallway adjacent to it. That's a key area for the defenders, who require full freedom of movement there, to prevent the Allies from constructing the controls or pushing the button that opens the garage doors. Those defensive dynos make it easier the Allies to achieve their goals, in my opinion. Of course, in a public server, anyone can do anything they want. Some people just want to have fun or get kills, which is fine, while others are more focused on tactics and objectives. Quote

More rules? Nein! Servers die when there are too many rules. The point of this thread is to foster thinking on strategy. To promote tactics that help, not hinder, team play. Bean Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 strategy, tactics doesnt fit together with public servers .. Yes and no, I'd say. I mentioned above that anything goes on a public server, but there are plenty of Hardcore players that are devoted to tactics, towards winning the map objectives. 1 Quote

Bean Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 ye but how is the solution? u want to have a banner at begin of map to tell or remind them? I think this thread is sufficient. Not an important enough issue for a banner. 1 Quote
