BelgianSF Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) During "the Burning Times", when the rise of Christianity led to the shunning (and persecution) you were put to 'justice' for having easter eggs and also for hiding them as a parent. It is said that the authorities, who were looking for the 'heathens', followed or bribed children to tell them where they found the eggs so that the person who gave them could be brought to justice. gibson66 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Constantine ruled 306-337 A.D. and Christianity was adopted during his reign. Babylonian empire ended somewhere in the 600-600 B.C. range. In addition, the Babylonian religion had no discernible presence in the Roman region; the Babylonians were gone by 500 B.C. (and the assyrians by 600 B.C.) It's an interesting idea, but there's not enough evidence to support it. 3 Quote

It's an interesting idea, but there's not enough evidence to support That those empires ended long before does not mean anything either... things get adapted over time and integrate in cultures. For example the Sumerian empire ended long before christianity emerged... and still the story of Noach was adopted and adjusted from Gilgamesj. If you see how things get adapted in religion, it is sometimes funny. The whole concept about who was a deity... God only or god and jesus was decided by chariotgames.... 4 Quote

No, I completely agree that there's a lot of overlap between religions and once you get down and look at the details, it's really fascinating. It's just that I'm not convinced that there's much connection between Babylonian and Eastern Orthodoxy. I'm not saying it's impossible, but there's not much concrete evidence to support it. 2 Quote
