Anyone experienced in setting up Dayz server? Anyone tried before?

Not familiar with setting server, but as server settings i prefer public instead private so you can use same character on all servers and also prefer hardcore over normal so you cant use third person, it really gives you advantage when are hiding in building or behind a fence so you can just use third person view to spot all enemies. Also i prefer not making it experimental server so only use patch that are stable. max players? 40 is best imo

That tutorial is for the arma 2 mod though, not for standalone.

 

I also have no experience in setting up a server but I'll ask my dayz buddies if they know a link they can share. As for the settings, pretty much what yellowflash said. I like 3rd person though

Haven't played standalone yet, used to play the mod when it started to get popular. Somethings though, make a semi pro server (meaning similar to Hardcore FA Server Enemy Territory in difficulity)

I wouldn't mind helping out if it is going to be an arma mod epoch server. i used to play that quite often with a friend of mine a while ago, so I do kinda know what most people are interested in.

 

If it is going to be an epoch server:

Server restart every 2 or 3 hours

many vehicles on the map for easy startups

missions to aquire gear, protected by npc's

 

just to name a few, personally i would really like to see 3rd person available as i cant stand first person gameplay

+1 on these, I play every once in a while on a server just like this and I love it

So which mod or add-on you guys want? Do I need to everything from my side or you guys will speak up that this is something I would like to play? 

 

I keep seeing not stand alone but if not that... what is the option? Please provide links so I can read about that add-on/mod and set up the server.

Why I dislike standalone, is becouse everyone just humps the military spawns and sit there all day with their sniper rifles to just pick new people off, and you cant find anything good in the towns.

DayZ : Epoch is a mod for arma 2 : operation arrowhead, that is a modification of the original DayZ mod for operation arrowhead.

This mod includes: base building, trading, npc missions, trade zones, player owned vehicles, and probably more i cant remember.

how bout overpoch? it is most popular mod as of the moment..

 

 

Anyway,  since I think there will be a debate whether our Dayz server will be the mod or standalone, let's solve that first. From there we can move on how to set up a server. I like the mod but of course, final decision will be yours Dare.

I am no pc expert, and can give you no technical reasons why I prefer this version to the other. I don't know specs, or have any awesome jargon as to why. I can only say, to me, it's like back in the day when I first played pac-man on the arcade, it was awesome, and blew my mind. So when Atari came out, I went and bought one, and the first game I purchased with it was pac-man..  Yeah. it was pac-man, in the sense that there was a little yellow guy eating dots, but that is where the similarities ended. I was underwhelmed, and hugely let down.. But hey, it's not up to me, and if the arma 2 mod is used, then it is used, I wont be playing it, but I will support it in any way I can..
