UAdave Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I guess i don't have winzip. Is there another way to open it? I use 7zip for .zip and WinRAR for .rar 1 Quote
Thundercats Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 is there something free that I can down load Quote
Heretic121 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 WinRAR can also extract zips as well. WinRAR is free but after 30 days you get a popup saying "You could buy a licence you know" whenever you open it, but it still works perfectly fine Quote
UAdave Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 is there something free that I can down load Both are free. 7zip is truly free/open source. WinRAR is a commercial trial but like Heretic said, just ignore the purchase warnings when they popup. 1 Quote
Thundercats Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 do you have a good link to download Quote
UAdave Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 7zip: http://filehippo.com/download_7-zip_64/ WinRAR: http://filehippo.com/download_winrar_64/ *These are assuming you have a 64-bit OS This is going a bit off track from the topic (no worries about it though) so I am going to momentarily split the topics into 2 different ones. Thundercats Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 okay I downloaded the winrar and I still can not view the darn file. Quote
Antichrist Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Jzip is also a free software, and I've been using it with no issues for a few years now Quote
Thundercats Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 Great thanks Antichrist I will try that Quote
Xernicus Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 What are you running for an operating system? Every release of Windows since 2001, and Mac OS since 2002 (at least) can read .ZIP files natively. Linux cannot, but distributions often come with a "File Extractor" or 'Compressor Tool".if you can't open the files even with 3rd party programs installed, I'm going to say you have severe registry issues regarding filetypes (with Windows anyways). I had to deal with that several years ago (like 8 years ago )- and I'll see about digging up the fix I found. Now the problem I dealt with was executable files-- a much more severe problem than not being able to open ZIP files, but even small issues like that can be signs of malware, scareware, or operating system corruption. It can also be caused by clicking on the wrong box. Quote
