Frog leaps and dancing around!

  1. 1. How do you feel about hopping and moving sideways in the face of the enemy?

    • I greatly enjoy it and use it frequently
    • I detest it and never use it
    • I don't mind and may occasionally do it myself
  2. 2. How effective do you think hops and sideways moves when firing is?

    • Very effective
    • They don't make a difference, only their users thinks so
    • They actually harm the performance of those using them

The battle rages hard around you. Bombs explode, bullets fly; pandemonium. Your friends die like flies, both teams struggle to achieve their objective. Determined to help your side and give a good fight, you plunge yourself into the mayhem. And as you come face to face with the enemy, they start...dancing! Left to right and back again, like Zorba the Greek! Opa! And hopping around like Easter bunnies, or like some kind of Super Mutant Frogs from outer space, armed to the teeth and determined to jump you to death!

I mean, how realistic is that? Crouching, falling in prone position, hiding, these are real battle tactics to stay alive. But has anyone seen a soldier hopping around in front of the enemy like a lunatic while firing his weapon, or greeting the enemy with a killing dance, like a maniacal Gene Kelly?

I know that many of you have adopted these tactics, and I know that there are no rules against them. Don't take my post seriously, this is just a laughing way to express my exasperation at dancing and hopping enemies, and to vent my (mild) irritation at these, often very effective, tactics. Besides, COD4 is just a game, regardless of how immersed in it we may become, and despite the fact that it is a very good battle simulation. There is only a certain amount of realism that can be achieved, or even desired, by games.

With that said, there are few things more rewarding in COD4 than shooting down an airborne enemy, or destroying a silly dance with a carefully aimed bullet barrage!   :P

What's going on there? I know nothing about it :)

The most epic strafe fights (aka moving sideways) humankind has ever seen! :P

I can't help but move back and forth as it is the way we sidewinders move.  Sorry.

I don't do a lot of hopping as I am not coordinated enough.

I am a bunny hopper, in any game. And I am very effective. I get the best headshots with a shotty when I do this.

In fairness, not much of it [player behaviour] is realistic as no one actually tries to stay alive.  There are a few who play like they're at war, like Don Solo and Falklands UK, you'll notice their' KRD is high yet their' score per minute is low.  I don't know what my point is! But just don't get AIDS.

Lol Double, you do have a point nonetheless. :)

My reference to realism was about soldier behaviour in real battles; they crouch, hide, etc, but none jumps high up in the air when all hell has broken loose. Then again, this is a game just for fun, and as long as no rules are being broken, everything goes. I'm just grumbling because I don't do it and I often fall prey to others doing it. So don't take my bitching seriously, it's just for fun!

I've often thought about rushing in the same way.  You hear people complain about campers which is more realistic than running head long into enemy territory hoping to get several kills before getting killed.

I've been trying a few tactics throughout my years of playing online war games (Rainbow Six in 1998).  Sometimes I like to go for the most likely army issue class, huddle down and occasionally pop my head above the parapet to take someone down. But I'll stay there, reload, have a peek, nothing? and hide until there is.

If you play 1 map and savor your life, you may get 5-8 kills with no deaths.  For the whole time your heart will be thumping like crazy, and if someone kills you it's a real big shock. But then that doesn't make the best gameplay.

If we all used team chat, it would be a totally different game. KDR's would be high to the regular users, but you'd only have maybe 10 kills for an 18 minute game - unless of course they come at you like lemmings - which, lets face it, is about as accurate as it gets when you're sprinting into a war zone. Oh yeah, and AIDS is well nasty - wear a condom.

Haha, I find those tactics extremely annoying as well, but then I find myself using them. I guess it's because I find it difficult to stay in the same area for long periods of time, I want to be in the battle and do things, not sit and wait, even if it is more logical. oh well.
