Ol Smoke Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 What do you think sets Walking Dead apart from other zombie shows and movies? I have watched all kinds of these shows for many years, but for some reason WD is pretty good. I think it is the trueness of the possibility of this happening that sets it apart. For one thing, it is only live people it affected. There are no long-dead bodies coming out of the ground. So once the infected alive people die, with their brain intact, they can come back. I like the cast and how they change. I occasionally go back and watch the first three episodes to see what the characters were like in the beginning. I like the way the writers give the characters a hint of hope, and then snatch it back, but then offer it again. Very good writing. I like the way that the show keeps sex to a minimum. This is very true in these situations of life and death. Staying alive is way more important than getting laid. I really like the way the people who run the show keep an ear to the texting that comes their way thru the internet. There were a million people who wanted that deputy sheriff killed off because they didn't like the actor. Poof! he is gone. So lets hear from you. One question for you: What do you want to happen to the brothers?? Quote
Chameleon Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 A little background before I get into The Walking Dead: When I was a kid I watched the 1968 original Night of the Living Dead and fell in love with zombies and have since collected ever zombie movie/tv show I could. A few years back I read The Walking Dead comics, which were great and always thought a movie/tv show would be awesome. Finally I saw it happen on AMC and was very excited. At first I was a little put off because I didn't feel like the show followed the comics, but putting the comics out of my mind I began to really enjoy the show that is, until recently. The show to me in the last few episodes has turned more into a "drama" like a soap opera than an apocalyptic/survival show. The zombies themselves have become second fiddle to relationships, grudges etc.. It's funny that you posted this as I had posted on my facebook this morning my disdain with the show as of late. I think for me it is still salvageable at this point, but only if the story starts to focus more on the groups struggle to survive against the dead and less on the relationships and drama. As a zombie fan I want this show to flourish and be great, but I feel like the direction they are going will at some point begin to push the die hard fans away.. But hey that's just my thoughts Quote
Corey Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) There were a million people who wanted that deputy sheriff killed off because they didn't like the actor. Poof! he is gone. So lets hear from you. One question for you: What do you want to happen to the brothers?? If you have not seen season 2, I would not suggest reading. Why that may be true that people wanted shane gone, the show follows the comic book to some extent. In the comic book shane dies anyway so they followed that. Daryl is a completely made up character that was not introduced in the comics and I think he is my favorite character so far I want him to stay with rick and the group, but I can see where his brother Merle may jeopardize that. I am hoping Merle can change and become a part of the group, but if that is not the case Merle has to go! I haven't read the comic book, so I can't compare how the show is going compared to that, but i love the show! I am a huge zombie fan and why some parts of the show may be more drama related compared to surviving I think that is probably necessary and does show to some extent what people will go through in a situation like a zombie apocalypse! Chameleon Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Haha Corey I always love to hear your replies on these movies because you say things I don't think about.. To be honest I liked Shane and not because we share the same name haha, I liked his ying to Rick's yang so to speak. To me Merle and Daryl are the saving grace to the show and I agree with you on the Merle deal, I hope he can change and stick around. I agree to an extent that there has to be some drama, but lately it is mostly drama and for me that kind of hurts it. Quote
Corey Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 You should watch "Talking Dead" it comes on right after walking dead and they bring on actors from the show and other hollywood actors to discuss the show and answer questions. They give a lot of different opinions about what is going on and what might happen. It is nice to hear some of them because they give some really good opinions! I'm not a great movie/show reviewer really lol. I will watch just about anything and not complain about it hehe. As long as it has something in it that interest me I am usually happy with it 1 Quote
Octane Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Walking Dead, is by far the greatest thing to ever be released on TV. The best show ever! HUGE FAN of TWD (THE WALKING DEAD)!!! DIXON BROTHERS RULE! Quote

It is always there because writers learn their stuff from other writers and colleges before they get a job on TV or movies. Now Quinten Tarantino is famous for removing the hook and inserting the front page wherever he wants. The hook is supposed to give the movie a slower pace just before the climax and then the reprieve. I personally hate the Hook. I want action and none of that silly fall in love crap. Keep the love stuff out of these movies. Like John Wayne said, "There are times and places for love scenes, just not in my movies" Well said Duke. I still miss you. 1 Quote
KevinBacon Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I think what sets it apart is that it is a more realistic representation of what society could degrade to in a situation like a zombie apocalypse. It doesn't even have to involve zombies. Nuclear holocaust, EMP, famine or disease. The realism that's portrayed, the breakdown of society, law, and all the little things we take for granted. That resonates with me. Quote
1337 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I agree with most of what was it. It does have a certain realism about it not commonly found on other zombie shows/movies, even though I like most of them. Its a really awesome show, but crap last night's was boring lol! Quote
PiaNist Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 agree with bacon, of all the zombie-apocalyptic themed movie/tv series, TWD, so far, has the best "realistic representation of what society could degrade to in a situation like a zombie apocalypse"....people making their own clans, civilized people turning to barbarians, savages just to survive. first time i watch the series, i thought it would be just humans vs zombies Quote
McFiro Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I am simply addicted to everything which is about zombies, games inculded But that's true, this show is top notch. Quote
Administrators JoeDirt Posted February 26, 2013 Administrators Posted February 26, 2013 I tried watching it and changed my channel after about 5 minutes, there are far better shows on TV. The whole zombie thing has been done to death (pun intended) and it should culminate with the WWZ movie. Quote
EnderWiggin Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Walking Dead, is by far the greatest thing to ever be released on TV. The best show ever! HUGE FAN of TWD (THE WALKING DEAD)!!! DIXON BROTHERS RULE! As much as my wife and I love Walking Dead, we love Spartacus even more. If you are over 14, I urge you to check it out. (It's like soft-core porn.) The blood-splattering is over done and, at first, may seem corny. But the plot reels you in to much more profound depths than Walking Dead. SPOILER- Regarding the question about the brothers, I think they are going be part of Rick's group for awhile. The fans love them both and neither is going away soon. What I'm curious about is how they are going to develop Merle's character. For the longest time he was an !@#. And an antagonist. These traits have diminished. So what is going to fill their place? What side story is he going to occupy? He is important and liked enough to have a side story. Quote
*ConQuerY* Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 imo supernatural is much better :> Quote
