CaldasGSM
I has playing this afternoon and my computer just crashed.. first I think it was a power failure.. when I saw the house light were still on.. I think is was just a reebot.. to then realize. my computer doesn't even turn on ... thank good I have my old one.. but will take time and patience to reassemble it, and format.. just hope I can get my ET GUID out of the old drive.. But I cant avoid wondering why does this always happens to me.. every 1 or 2 years a computer part just breaks.. harddrive, motherboard, graphics cards..you name it.. every 2 years Buy a new computer... (since by that time just buying the piece does not pay off).. Does that happen to you guys also.. how much time does it take you guys for a computer part to fail? I think only happened once (1 computer of 3). Maybe consider buying parts from a different manufacturer? =P
Administrators daredevil Posted December 12, 2009 Administrators Share Posted December 12, 2009 I replace hard drives every 3-4 years and I replaced laptop every 3-4 years. I am planning to buy new core i7 laptop in Feb or March. You should keep your fans and processor clean. I replace thermal paste every 1 or 2 years cos my PC/laptop are online 24*7. Most of the issues are caused due to cheap power supply or heat.

Administrators JoeDirt Posted December 12, 2009 Administrators Share Posted December 12, 2009 My case has filters so no dust as for parts I am not stingy and only buy top quality stuff. Most common mistake is to be stingy on a power supply I used to work for a PC manufacturer in the past which decided to put cheap chinese power supplies and save 5 dollars per pc when buying in bulk soon after 80 percent of them failed. I always used Ultras since they give you a lifetime warranty and it also covers other parts of the computer in case there is a power supply failure and other parts get damaged in process. In last 15 year only had one hdd fail and I revived it by putting it in the freezer for a few hours (in a ziplock bag) worked for another week enough time for me to recover my data. Go with something quality like Corsair/OCZ/Antec/PC Power and Cooling/many others as well. You may want to look at something to smooth your power going into your computer like a battery backup unit. FilterRight are awesome filters. Didn't know Ultras had lifetime warranties. I do know they have issues with some EVGA x-58 board though. I have never heard of using that trick with harddrives. I've of heard freezing memory and motherboards. I've also heard of baking them in the over to rejoin the solder.

I am guilty of baking an ASUS mb that had some loose solder close to the cpu it was to tiny to solder so I tried it and it worked. All Ultras that I bought come with manufacturer's lifetime warranty, there are cheaper Ultras out there made in china that have a limited lifetime warranty but I never tried them. frag
That's a pretty aggressive replacement scheduled Dare! I've had 2 laptops that are still kickin over 4 yrs old now and the HD on my PC is about 3 yrs old and seems to show no signs of slowin' down. I must agree about the dust being the killer. It did kill a PS on a PC I had many years ago but I think parts and equipment might be made a little better nowadays.

My hard drive never sleeps and laptop is on 24*7 unless i am travelling. Laptop hard drive life is generally 5-7 years depending on how much read and write you are doing. PHANTASM
Get a Sony VAIO, they last forever. They are the Toyota of computers. I have two VAIOs, one is seven years old and I am using it right now. Only thing I have replaced is the hard drive (Western Digital failed after 6 years) and upgraded the RAM to 1.5GB and graphics card to 256MB (AGP lol). I can't do anything more because the mobo is now the limiting factor. It's only got a 133MHz. My "new" VAIO I bought used for $250 and it was state-of-the-art from 2007. I actually like my old VAIO better, the new one has problems connecting to the internet lol. The "problem" with VAIOs is that they last so long you don't want to get rid of them so your computer is always old. I had a couple Compaq Presarios in the late 1990s that I couldn't upgrade anything on and had suckass Windows 98. I had an HP Kayak that burned up in 2000 after one year due to the fan dying. Worst computer ever - I bought a Gateway laptop new in 2006 and it was dead within 18 months - fan died, battery shorted, and display snapped off. Total POS. CaldasGSM
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU just when I went to reassemble my old computer.. I realized I cant put all the hardware inside the old machine.. (mother board dont suport) and using the old power supply with the new computer... not compatible with the newest motherboard.. so this means I'm actually gonna have to spend money.. to fix my comp. or buy a new one... and this really comes in a bad time.. xmas.. so until I work out the best solution for the least price.. I'm not gonna be able to play.. 1 or 2 weeks.. But still gonna be around the forums.. in my GF laptop.. so ill be in touch.
