GraveDigger Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I moved to south Texas a couple of months ago due to my job and i seem to be sharing my living space with a community of bark scorpions. I have found 3 in 2 weeks. 1 in my bath tub (while i was showering ), 1 in my pillow case and 1 in my bathroom sink. Has anybody had any experience with these nasty little critters? I want them to go away. Most pesticides you can buy do nothing to them. Any ideas that any of you have would be appreciated. Quote
yellow flash Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 wow thats scary dude i couldn't live in place like that ;P id be in corner with shotgun or smthing xD Quote
ajnl Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Wow that sux. Have you gone to some stores in the area to see what kind of pesticides they have? I'm sure there is something that will kill it. I had scorpion in my house, only a couple a year tho. Just killed them with a shoe. Quote
Faithless Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I myself I would be afraid to live at home with some scorpions... be careful with them, can be dangerous in that it will sting. Quote
Krayzie Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Get rid of what they eat. If there is nothing to eat they go away. Thing's like crickets/grasshoppers and other things like that. Also try finding where they are coming in and block the entrance. Normally under doors. Get cat's if you have them. They will kill them. Diatomaceous earth, use that around the house, they walk through it and die. Quote
NoGooD Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Found this though you've likely come across it already. Those are nasty little critters. I didn't realize that species can climb walls. The only thing I really know about them is they are easy to find with a black light out in the desert. I also found this thread on killing bark scropions with diatomaceous earth. Quote
Achiyan Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Diatomaceous earth seems nice. And since you are in TX (i used to live in Houston...just sayin ), im sure that there are plenty of locals that have or had this experience as well. Someone is sure to have a tip or two Quote
GraveDigger Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 Thanks for the feedback. The fact that they can climb walls is scary. Thank god they don't have wings. I am driving back to Houston this weekend and am going to a chemical supply company and purchase some very strong pesticide. I am sure that it is Just a matter of time before I get stung. I will post pictures when this unfortunate event occurs. Quote
KevinBacon Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Lol, pest control companies are like 30 or 40 bucks a month here. Can't be much more in Texas.... Quote
docwarren Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Put steel wool in your weep holes. Most likely where they are coming in. Quote
castlin Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I'm afraid, unless you call extermination specialists, that you'll have to do it the old fashioned way : Kill them manually (shoes are the greatest weapons in that case). Anyway, in case you get stung by one, kill it at once as it stays idle for like 10 seconds (they lose the power to run right after they sting), and take the seringue, and put it on your skin so it sucks it and cuts blood circulation, then go the nearest hospital without panicking (call an ambulance it's better). Search for the mother. If you kill the mother, the others don't have many chances to survive. Good luck and keep us posted. Castlin Quote
Midnight Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Get Guinea Hens... they love to eat scorpions and any other critters you have around (bug, lizards, snakes too!) They do fly though so make sure your neighbors dont mind. Ours roamed the desert and always came back at night. Quote
Helmut the soldier Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Some traps for the biests would be appropriate Quote
