BAKERSFIELD, CA (KFSN) -- In a case that has shocked even investigators, an Oildale man is in jail for allegedly cooking and eating cats.

Jason Louis Wilmert is being held in the Kern County Jail on charges alleging animal cruelty and using a pet or domesticated animal for food. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Neighbors called sheriff's deputies when they heard cats wailing and screeching at the 36-year-old's house in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt says he has "never seen anything like this."

Pruitt says investigators found evidence that led them to believe "he had the intent to use a cat for food," but he couldn't comment directly on the evidence. The case has been sent to the district attorney.

Wilmert is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.

The Associated Press and CNN contributed to this report.

Yep I'm sure that China can eat Moazer...(jk)

As for this weird story, I don't understand what happened in the head of this man and try to guess is the best way to become mad. There are no reasons to be cruel with animals, jail is well deserved even if I think that asylum would have been better.

Google for siopao . Tastes very nice, an option for beef, pork, cats. Even served in restaurants and leading fast food chains. Nom nom nom :P

The only thing that I find disturbing is in the news video the guy told the cop that he was skinning the cat while they were alive. Thats what they assume to be the reason for the loud welping sound heard by neighbors.
