This is why I pick and choose my battles; medic will never let ya down!

For Fops, I just wish the cooldown time was increased :)

Maybe, each fops gets 1 airstrike and 1 FFE per life. That would be something neat.

I recently banned a player on Jay#1 for Very Obviously wasting his team's air/arty resources.

It was not a disagreement over air/arty targets, but of using binocs near the spawn and spamming the arty-call to waste resources for the team.

I do not want to give you all the impression that I had banned him for only one "sin".  He has a long record of troubles with the Clan and already had an Admin Warning for the same action earlier.  The more 💩 that they give the Clan and the Players, the quicker the bans come.  He had ignored my words, flings, throws, putspecs and chickens.  :( He is a "rebel without a cause".  🧌

This is no different than having the teammate that's running the panzer being virtually ineffective. Though, that is feasibly worse since each team is literally limited to 1 panzer as opposed to multiple lieutenants trying to call in the only artillery.

While we hope admins like Red will continue to take action against players that are deliberately wasting team resources, the vast majority of the time it's simply due to players with low skill level or limited understanding to how to maximize a weapons' efficiency. Neither case is(or should ever be) an actionable offense.

I agree with that statement in a sense, that these kind of players should not be punished, but that also doesn't mean that we shouldn't do anything about it. I think it's the job of regulars and admins in particular to educate these people and explain to them what they are doing wrong. If we just stand by and complain in forums, about players lack of basic understanding of game and tactics, then nothing gets better. ET is over 20 years old, and it's baffling how many players are clueless about basic tactics and game mechanics. For example  - it's very common in supply depot that allies ride the truck to the first gate, without capturing flag or planting first. Even players with millions of XP and years of experience in the server do it. How long should we wait more before people "evolve" to get basic understanding of the game? If admins used !warn or !put spec or !splat if they saw someone doing it, the community would actually get better, and we would not still be "a 20 year old game full of noobs".

That's a fine line of subjective administrating you're advocating for. I'm not sure the admins would be up to the task of nit-picking particular styles of a players' gameplay if they're not deliberately trying to troll their own team.

In the example you provided, do you !warn/!spec/!splat the whole allied team? Just the engineer advancing the truck? Or do you include all engineers on allies? What about all the covert ops that haven't blown the CP? While taking these action may improve gameplay overall, it also might also be at the expense of the community. Players may just opt not to play here. I had a similar experience on "The Old Farts" server and never returned.

These are all valid questions, but also somewhat irrelevant. Obviously admins should only !splat the player that is escorting the truck, rest of the team can do what they want. If we are talking about not blowing up the CP fast enough, and escorting the truck too early, then these are completely different things. There is a big difference in not being able to complete an objective for your team, and actively working to give advantage to opposite team. I think that these principles are quite easy to follow and enforce. There is no gray area.

Escorting the truck to the front gate is part of the objectives. Nowhere does it say that you need to blow open the front gate before you escort the truck there. How that can be seen as "actively working to give advantage to opposite team" is mind boggling to me.

Maybe regular admins like @RedBaird@Lusciousdrunk@tipsy@Snake in the Grass can weigh in on how that should be handled, but if admin powers were ever granted to me, I would never enforce that.

Jay1 is chock-full of players that are infuriating to play with. But making everyone play the way you'd like them to play by way of force seems counterintuitive in a multitude of ways IMO.

Unless I’m misunderstanding the situation I agree with @MoFohere. I don’t see how that’s giving the other team an advantage.

It's not something I just randomly came up with. This is how supply depot is actually played at the highest level. Have you guys watched a single competitive supply depot match ever? I guess not. It is basic tactics not to move the truck before you have control of the first gate. Moving the truck to depot before, gives huge advantage to the defending side. The truck is a perfect cover for axis, and once the allies get the plant down, you can't cover the plant with rifle or panzer, because the truck is in the way. Just watch some  ET gathers or Nation Cup games... NOBODY MOVES THE TRUCK BEFORE.

Yet I have never seen you play as engineer to blow the gate before the truck reaches it 😉 Be the change you want to see

As far as i am concerned, as lower level admin, i aim to keep a good atmosphere on the server, so i focus on the repeating whiners, the team complainers, and the obvious racist, sexist, diminishing remarks. And keep the game balanced ofc.

And as a player, i'm always happy when a few teammates create a fireteam to focus on a specific objective, but that remains pretty rare.

Sorry for the quote, i'm not specifically targeting you as you're not the only one to think the same, but at the end of the day, it's a public server with players just wanting to have fun for 10mins, 1h, 3h, etc.

I mean we're not even punishing players for leaving mid games, as it used to be done in many other games (League of Legends, etc.). Only a few players used Discord for vocal organization; it's a fun server, the objectives are real, and we're supposed to follow them, as per the official FA guidelines; but this is no professional game, we will certainly not review the replay at the millimeter to check on penalty.

What classes I play is completely irrelevant to the issue (and do you even play jay1?). I am talking about what is the most effective tactics available for supply depot. Secondly - this is exactly what I am talking about, even if an engie can get the plant down it always gets defused, because the truck is in the way, and rest of the team can't cover the plant.

Does that mean that more experienced players should not help and educate less experienced players? Does that mean that we should never evolve as a community? I don't see that splating someone who sits on a truck a huge "punsihment". Its not like I suggest we should kick or ban them or smth.

Warning people for "wasting arty" is way more subjective and dangerous. But educating players on tactics that has been common knowledge for 20 years should be normal approach.
