I recently banned a player on Jay#1 for Very Obviously wasting his team's air/arty resources.

It was not a disagreement over air/arty targets, but of using binocs near the spawn and spamming the arty-call to waste resources for the team.

That sounds like Grvw. 😂

Anyway. Tbh i dont use birdwatcher class a lot. Only on some maps I know it will help or if noone cares about mortar that knows what to do.

But it is very common to see players that can barelly stay alive on jay1 to use fops.

I think we need @Dropz in this discussion as his arty is usually very good and we mostly play opposite teams and he pisses me off with it 😂

Mathe for exmple is best ammo distribution system anyone can imagine. 😂

My conclusion. You wont stop it I guess. Having bad fops with only one slot possible for him would be worse than few with one good among them.  Its public which in the evening hours changes into meat grinder mostly.

Yes sadly theres often bad fdops spamming bad positions but as redbaird said if theyre totally wasting its bannable as its team messing if u keep wasting it for ur team. but yeah cant stop the ones who just place it in dumb places not thinking where the obj is played etc.

Does that mean that more experienced players should not help and educate less experienced players? Does that mean that we should never evolve as a community? I don't see that splating someone who sits on a truck a huge "punsihment". Its not like I suggest we should kick or ban them or smth.

Warning people for "wasting arty" is way more subjective and dangerous. But educating players on tactics that has been common knowledge for 20 years should be normal approach.

I agree on the main point, and I sometimes do mention my pov on tactics, but it never goes beyond that; furthermore, I make these remarks as a regular, not as admin, i mean tactics education is a duty of regulars and experienced players, not admins. If any regulars want to do that, it's fine by me, as long as it is done respectfully, i.e. not like grvw, nina or fasut, which end them being muted most of the time.

Furthermore complicated by bots casting it on unlikely places as well

It's not something I just randomly came up with. This is how supply depot is actually played at the highest level. Have you guys watched a single competitive supply depot match ever? I guess not. It is basic tactics not to move the truck before you have control of the first gate. Moving the truck to depot before, gives huge advantage to the defending side. The truck is a perfect cover for axis, and once the allies get the plant down, you can't cover the plant with rifle or panzer, because the truck is in the way. Just watch some  ET gathers or Nation Cup games... NOBODY MOVES THE TRUCK BEFORE.

Thank for explaining the situation more clearly. And I haven’t watched a competitive match of supply depot years. I understand your point but you’re also talking about 3 v 3 or 6 v 6 in a comp setting where everyone knows the strategy you’re talking about. This is a Jaymod server of random people from all over the world doing random shit. When you have 40+ people using artillery, panzer, 10 people with rifle grenades, mortars basic strategy tends to immediately go out the window. The game is 20 years old and most people don’t give a shit about that. Myself included. They just want to have fun.

What does this prove? This post was originally about field ops problems on Jay1. Now we are talking about the truck and the gate on supply depot being blown. It appears to have gotten off track a bit, so I don’t really understand your point.

I think we need a "ET strategy" topic on the forum. That way, people like @HarryAimpotter, @MoFo and others could share their gaming knowledge on how to improve at the game, wether it is for aiming, playing the objective, or even on how to jump fast without bumping against obstacles. I know there already exists posts which explain these things, but maybe we could gather them all in this new potential topic to make them more easy to view.

Perhaps a clever idea could be this: limit each field op to 10 FFE or airstrikes per match that can be used whenever one wants, without having to wait for the lightning activation, so every field op knows that after the tenth intervention, they will no longer be able to use them until the start of the next map.

Is this possible to be implemented in jay? Sounds interesting, but i'm afraid it would just reset after going spec.

Not to mention people pressuring people to play fops after they run out of ffe themselves. In a 18 vs 18 match this would amount to 360 arty calls.

Yeah…. No way.

Just accept that there will always be bad fieldopses in a match, it’s a 20 year old game, you’re not going to revolutionise things. Especially not in crowded servers like jay1 and beginners2

Let's say that optimism is not in your DNA; in all these years of existence, many people have worked to improve it and will continue to do so out of passion.

Surely someone will succeed in improving the quality of the game on the Jay servers; I am optimistic that they will manage to do it.

In the meantime, I take the opportunity to encourage you to try the 2 cfg files I created to test the timedemo on all the maps.
