[ETLegacy] FPS Drops

I've read all the other recent FPS dropping threads and haven't had any luck, so this thread is probably a longshot - but let's try it anyway.

I have FPS drops on the typical maps (goldrush, bremen, etc.) when there are a lot of people (5-6) or explosions nearby. This wouldn't be a surprise for me if it weren't for the fact that the issue only started several weeks ago after I installed the Windows Creator's Update. Relevant specs - Intel i7-3770 and integrated graphics (Intel HD 4000).

Things I've tried:

  • Upgrading my Intel graphics drivers
  • Downgrading my Intel graphics drivers
  • All the graphical options that can be accessed from the ingame menu
  • r_primitives 1, 2, and 3
  • Running without fullscreen optimization, in compatibility mode, as admin
  • Reinstalling ET Legacy with new assets

There was a recent windows update that screwed up things for a lot of people. Try searching these forums and/or Google with that in mind. GL and sorry I don't remember any specifics.

Yep, it's the fall creators update. Unfortunately, Intel isn't responsive to anyone posting on their forums about it and a couple guys from the ET Legacy team had no suggestions for me. I guess I'll be downgrading to Windows 7!

I'm not familiar with Intel's gfx ui but after installing/removing the intel drivers did you go through and tweak the drivers correctly? There's a few settings that have to be adjusted within Nvidia's settings (not in game but the gfx ui itself) to make ET run correctly. This fixed the problem for another player after the update and I don't see it in your list of things you've tried.

There aren't really any settings available. The only things I can change are related to color, gamma, etc.

Yep, it's the fall creators update.

off-topic, but I lost Sleep and Hibernate after that Update.  Hibernate returned after further updates, but my Sleep still fails upon awakening with just a blank screen showing.  Power settings via DOS-window does not fix it.

I had been using Sleep on this Desktop unit while it was connected to a large-capacity UPS.  I would put it to sleep for an hour or three and awaken it via the power switch, which I had reset to Sleep / un_Sleep.  I had set it to not awaken on KB or mouse.  I only turned the system off a bedtime.  I might be able to install a small old HD and use that for Hibernate, but is not the same as a gentle Sleep.  BTW, Win10 was set to a Hybrid-Sleep = Sleep & Hibernate, which IS safer for your documents and settings.

lot of method fix's problems like that are used in other games work for just about any games  it's worth a try if you don't want to go back to windows  7 or whatever and just work with what you have

how i got this was i just googled  Windows Creators Update. FPS DROPS there are lot of other posts  and websites with other fixes

this update been out for almost a year now so i'm sure if you spent the time reading  and trying  them it would be worth it in the end  one fix that works for others don't always fix your problem

The root cause of issues with games after the Creator's Update is either graphics drivers that are FUBAR, or the installation of the update got FUBAR. Seen both.

I've found that with these major updates (they're not service packs, these are legit new versions of Windows), if you encounter issues with games, the first thing you want to do is to Download the latest versions of drivers from your manufacturer. Then uninstall Chipset drivers first, followed by Graphics drivers (Use DDU in Safe Mode for graphics- do not uninstall using Control Panel, or any other utility- only use DDU).

Reboot and install fresh Chipset and Graphics drivers, followed by another reboot. Nine times out of ten, your issue should be fixed.
If that doesn't work, rollback the update using "Go back to previous version of Windows 10". You can then be happy with the previous build until you decide reinstall the update at a later date- where you'll find everything to be working 100% as intended.
