Ann!b@l Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 On 3/14/17 windows 10 automatically installed a critical update. you prolly talking about the February\March huge Windows update we all got I guess.. There's some security patches, updates for some of the Windows components, and new enhancements, but I see nothing here that could mess a game.. In all cases, I didn't encounter such an issue since the update. Unless a driver came to stick itself on all these updates in your case. Check the settings on the panel of your graphic card and make sure vsync is disabled. And if there's still no improvement, try by re-installing your GFX driver. 1 Quote
Platinum VIP -=HipKat=- Posted March 17, 2017 Platinum VIP Posted March 17, 2017 I wonder if that's why all of a sudden my audio sounds like it's underwater, like my ears are plugged. Probably not though, since only ET has this problem Quote
Vanaraud Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 AMD GPU: try \r_primitives 2 Security related? Try to disable antivirus for a moment. System related? Try to move ET out of C:\Program Files to some other folder, like C:\Games(u can create it). Try to run ET in compatibility mode(Windows 7) and run ET always as Administrator(Right click on ET.exe and choose "run as admin") Reinstalling a application usually leaves profile files in place, so try to back up config files and delete them(under etmain and a mod you play). 1 Quote
DoubleDragon Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 If a update was just installed then there is probably more updating going on in the background. You can disable the windows updating and remove these new updates optional . This new update you received just recently I received it as well it's a security update for windows defender and cortana . These shouldn't be slowing down your computer tho. You will need to open task manager click on CPU to arrange items that are using the most cpu and click on service host network restricted and see if Program Compatibility Assistant Service is running this application will drain windows 10 normally this comes on when a program is installed and shuts down after a few mins but it will get stuck running even after rebooting. These are some of the apps I use to start with on a new install of Windows 10. Watch the video it will show you how to use it. To stop Microsoft from spying on you. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/destroy_windows_10_spying.html if the above is to complicated use the Anti-Beacon same thing. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/spybot_anti_beacon_for_windows_10.html This one has disable cortana built it is more complex to understand but is same as above. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/oo_shutup10.html Normally I disable windows defender from running all the time and use Malware-bytes as a alternative cause i can disable startup of it and remove the notification of security warnings and still have a anti-virus program I can run when I want not when it wants. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/malwarebytes_anti_malware.html To disable Windows Defnder http://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/remove_windows_defender_from_windows_10_and_windows_8_1.html just getting warmed up. Next I typically uninstall all new windows 10 apps that are pre-installed and running in the background. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/windows_10_app_remover.html Now that the system is barely running anything I typically disable the function of letting new updates install. I do it by hand but you can use this to disable windows updates. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/win_updates_disabler.html And now lock the system from turning these back on using UVK system immunize. Be sure to uncheck the Internet Settings in the Internet and Windows Explorer section. Do note if you choose this option to immunize the system you will need to turn this off each time a new install is added to the system or uninstall anything cause the application will will leave files in the system that is protected . http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/uvk_ultra_virus_killer_portable.html There is more but I have no idea what kind of computer this is related to or what kind of graphics card you are using. Can only advise you to try AVC do a custom install and uncheck the programs it offers like the Lan app for storing passwords. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/advanced_systemcare_10.html Only use AVC when system is un-immunized or it will cause problems. Don't install any other programs that are from iObit like the Uninstaller , Driver Detector or the Spyware Protection just need to check the system for problems that is all. Next I use Revo Uninstaller to remove other applications and remove left over files good app to remove junk programs or to remove programs that are missing uninstallers it also has a built in StartUp manager which is useful to find programs in all catagories like FF Chrome Edge extensions. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/revo_uninstaller.html Now with little information about what system type and hardware that this is related to I have to stop here for now. Being your update was unrelated to the game cause it has installed something that has altered the games behavior this is typically a Direct X Api issue if previously you had decent fps. Check direct x for updates or reinstall direct x using this one works on windows 10 provides all the information for 9.0c and below for older applications http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_directx.html Hope some of this information you understand one of these will probably fix the problem. If reinstalling ET doesn't resolve it. Do note you can uninstall newer updates by checking the update settings. In search box type Updates then click on View Installed Updates and then when it opens on the right click on sort by date and time and uninstall the new update in the Microsoft Windows Section by right clicking and uninstall. Also if you could provide us with more information about the graphics driver and hardware this is running will give us a understanding of where you at. 1 Quote
Shades Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 I have the same issue since this morning. When I execute my ET (in administrator mode), the game is opening really slowly. The menu is all fcked up : my mouse can move but very slowly and the sound is all jerky. I tried the vsync solution : has not worked. I tried to move my Et in C:/Games : didn't work either. I play on a laptop (Sony Vaio Serie E). I hope someone could help me. I can't live without this game Quote
Ann!b@l Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) So far the only thing I had noticed after the update was that the driver of my dedicated Intel network card was messed up even though my connection was still working. I have had to re-intall all this (driver+software) to get its feature for advanced users and its driver working properly again. So maybe try to open some of the panels utilities (Nvidia\AMD, Intel, Realtek, so on). That's how I located the issue after have noticed a fishy behaviour on my connection. The Intel network utility didn't want to open itself despite that driver+software were still displayed as installed. Or just re-install some of the essential drivers like graphic, network, sound driver.. And preferably with the latest drivers version released. Edited March 18, 2017 by Ann!b@l Quote
Shades Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 All my drivers are ok. I even check if my laptop was recognizing my intel card as the default graphic card. Quote
Krusnik87 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 All my drivers are ok. I even check if my laptop was recognizing my intel card as the default graphic card. Do you have a dedicated GPU? such as one from nvidia or amd? If so, when you "right clic" with your mouse on ET, select the dedicated graphic unit, not the integrated Intel chip. Quote
Ann!b@l Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) All my drivers are ok. I even check if my laptop was recognizing my intel card as the default graphic card. I thought me too.. But the update prolly corrupted\damaged some files.. And apparently it seems to not be a coincidence. You use Intel HD graphic for display and you get this issue. Might affect most Intel products and their files. Edited March 18, 2017 by Ann!b@l Quote

Buckwild Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 I use dual-boot when apps don't work in one operating system. This may be difficult with Win10, Installing Win8 disabled all My multi-boots... It's possible to use the bios hard drive boot choice to choose to boot into OS on another hard drive. Quote

You want EasyBCD which is free and powerful utility that you can use to BOOTMGR/Boot Controller for Windows easily. I use it when I had dual boot with Linux/WIn 7 to make Linux my default bootup Quote
