None of these games are like ET.

Dirtybomb is okay at best. It was supposed to be the new TF2. The new ET. It fell short of both. It got real stale, real fast. Not to mention  much of the community sucks ass. Modern F2P games tend to bring in a lot of shitty little kid attitudes.

Warface is P2W. So have fun with that.

COD4 RM is a cash grab. Also- Microtransactions. IN A f***ING PAID GAME.

BF1 feels like a WW1 skinned BF4. If you're a WW junkie, then sure. Have fun. But if you like open world warfare, a game like Planetside has more appeal; In the sense that battles can go on for hours, there are no lobbies, game is objective based, the world is pretty damn huge, and there are features like base building. That said, it's not perfect and has its flaws lots of them. It's also futuristic rather than real world military.

In reality there are no games like ET in a modern setting. ET is unique and a representation of an era from the early days of FPS games. Hardcore fast paced arena shooting with strong objectives mixed in. I've yet to find anything like it. Would love to see SD do a modern remake if ET. I think it would sell very well and change up a stale industry of Boots on Ground military sims, MOBA wanna be's and the same old TF2 clones. Let's also not forget that most new games are no longer lobby based, and instead rely on that shitty matchmaking. For some reason companies like EA and Activision have an aversion to letting people run their own servers.

The new Insurgency clone might be alright. Day of Infamy? It'll be a slower paced game. More realistic if it's anything like Insurgency. Set in WWII. Other than that I've not seen a whole lot. Probably not going to be anything like ET, however. -Again, ET is extremely unique and in its own league.

Uhm... I'm sorry SiD But I disagree with you, except that ET is unique and probably will never have a duplicate.
While none of these games are going to represent 2003, nothing can- as we're in 2017. And no, 2003 was not early when it comes to FPS games. Let's talk 1993.
Having played Dirty Bomb in the alpha, beta, and currently- I can say that it is probably the closest we are going to get to ET in today's age. I haven't even seen you on our ET servers actually in the past 5-6 years.

And although I know you're just trying to be honest... all of this cussing and negativity is simply not cool dude. Chill.

Warface I haven't played much of, but I'll get back to this topic on soon. In fact, I'll play it today.

Battlefield is slightly too realistic to compare to ET. As for Planetside, I have friends who have played it and based on what I hear the atomosphere is nothing alike.
Insurgency? Still not arcade enough. But it's closer than planetside from what I've heard.

I frankly don't give a shit. You wan t to be all positive happy? Go for it. I enjoy swearing. I'm also an adult. I'm completely capable of deciding for myself how I speak.

Congrats on enjoying dirty bomb. I didn't like it. I didn't feel it was anywhere near what ET was. It felt more like TF2. Maybe mixed with LOL's business model.

I don't play ET these days. I played long before I ever found FA. And as for FA, I've played on the servers a total of 5 times. Mostly for nostalgia purposes. What exactly is your point, however?

And are you really trying to give me a history lesson on FPS games? As we're speaking of online shooters, you might want to recheck your dates. The first multiplayer FPS was Quake in '96. And it wasn't very mainstream. In fact most shooters in the 96-2000 era were relatively small with minor communities. Early days of the internet and all.

It was after the 2000's that online MP shooters started gaining traction and going toward the mainstream. So yes, 2003 is still considered early days of the online FPS genre.

As for PS2, I never said it was like ET. At all. I compared it to Battlefield- in an open world warfare sense.

I lost any hope for decent MP shooter when Titanfall (1) died within a year and they started to make another one- to go on another wave of money grabbing, instead of fixing the game- which is going on demo\sales also.

And why they die? Because no dedi server support, heck there isn´t even a spectator mode to make demos to submit against cheaters. Also no way to get any admins online to deal with unbalanced teams and trouble makers. Everything leading to less players, which leads to small unbalanced matches and the cycle goes on.

Though really enjoyed Titanfall for it´s fast paced shooting, also as a mecha fan the Titans were a nice touch. Maybe give it a try in next free trial session, or wait for a great sale...

Crysis MP were cool too, but they died also quickly, for the before mentioned reasons. In my eyes ET-s one big advantage is it´s community maintained fair servers.

If you're looking for something with similar mechanics as ET is to Quake 3 then check out Reflex.  The game play is TDM/1v1/CTF etc.  Maybe one day it will go open source and someone will make it into an objective based game like ET but... I don't get my hopes up anymore.  It's the only engine I know of that's capable of encompassing all aspects of ET and the types of gamers that go with it.
