ronaldounit0 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Hey guys, I run a CPU-Unparking app and Razor Game Booster on my PC to enhance the frame rate while gaming. I'm curious, what do you all use? Quote
A. Pirate Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I don't use any software that I can think of -- I just overclocked my Bulldozer CPU to 4.2ghz and my GTX6704GB Superclocked to a 10% boost. Everything works flawlessly and my framerates are always capped out at 250. I do run into an issue on creek where if I have AA turned on at 4x, it lags my video down to 44fps. I think it has to do with crappy image rendering (outdated) and a software glitch with the driver. Either way, you don't gain much from AA on multiplayer so it's not a loss. Quote
ronaldounit0 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Interesting, is this a desktop? I'm limited to my school laptop to play so I need all of the software I use to get good fps (and by good, I mean worst graphics settings=90fps max) haha Quote

Laptops aren't for gaming, despite what Best Buy tells people. Quote
Dddrgn Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I don't run any programs, and I run the game at a solid 60 fps, so it seems fine for me. Quote
ronaldounit0 Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 I had to buy a convertible tablet pc as a requirement for school and since it was so much, I sadly couldn't afford a good pc. But this is fine for me ragardless. And okay Dddrgn, thanks to you both for the input! Quote
Pepsi Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 i have a solid 125FPS set on mine and i don't use any game enhancers i only use configs for cod4 so... Quote
speedfact Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 What are configs? what he said pepsi...enhancers means any change you have done to the game since you got it. If you have changed your configs then you are using an enhanced game. Quote
LainTime/Bazingaa^_- Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 No programs. Only a promod cfg that gives me 250+ fps. Can go up to 333 if I want. Quote
Ann!b@l Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) UnparkCPU (me too)+ Windows tweaks via command prompt, panel admin tools, registry, bios, and some others + CPU and Graphic Card OC+ a regular cleaning+ ...= 2333fps reached on ET, almost 400fps on War Thunder, over 600fps on Street Fighter X Tekken, Call of Juarez, Grid 2, etc, etc... with the settings of these games on max details. Mostly all these programs do and make easier only the job for you.. But they add their own weight on the performances of your pc. Conclusion, everything is already there, just be more curious\take the time to search these Windows commands\settings, keep your pc clean and drivers updated. Edited February 3, 2014 by Ann!b@l Quote
ronaldounit0 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 I'm sorry, I googled configs for CoD4, but the details were a bit hazy. Does it shut down background processes? I don't understand what configs do. (and sorry if the answer is right in front of me, I just don't see it) And Ann!bal, the CPU unparker app is great! rivalxfactor directed me to it and I am pleased. But geez that's a fantastic fps! I'll have to poke around my settings sometime when I can. Quote

Basically, a config takes the graphics settings in your game (the ones built into the options menu) and overrides them. You can disable the small bits of debris from blowing around, make mobile objects like crates and watermelons stationary, set your FPS (I have mine set at 250 or 333 most of the time), or even make it so you can see through smoke. There are a lot of tweaks that can be made that take a lot of distractions away from the game or prevent lag from happening (disabling detail on small shrubs and foliage, etc. There are also some that even skirt the edge of cheating, but they're nearly impossible to prove. Personally, I play with a stock set-up most of the time unless I'm playing Promod. Edited February 3, 2014 by A. Pirate Quote
ronaldounit0 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks so much for the explanation Pirate, that was extremely helpful! My follow-up question is: can the server detect if you have a config that removes smoke/necessary particles? The entire point of smoke is to obscure vision, so removing it would be counter-intuitive and give the player a massive unfair advantage. Quote

The entire point of smoke is to obscure vision, so removing it would be counter-intuitive and give the player a massive unfair advantage. Unfortunately, there isn't anything to detect it. There is just the good old-fashioned art of observation. In my old clan, we'd intentionally use smoke as a tool to spot wallhackers on maps like Crossfire and Overgrown. When the server is full, people think they're less likely to have someone spec them so they take liberties that they normally wouldn't. Quote
