ajnl Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Check out this website: Link Type in a password to see how secure it would be. How long would it take for a single desktop computer to crack it. My password that I use for the things I want to keep most secure (like bank account, credit card stuff, etc) would take 71 quadrillion years to crack lol. 1 Quote
wussy Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 for normal thing ( like forum accounts, they need 7 hours for bank account ( paypal,... ) it takes 105 trillion years Quote
Jefke Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Only 4000 years for all my passwords (all unique) I could make it safer, but it's a well balanced thing between usability and safety. Besides that, all my passwords are changed every 2 months to reduce the risk. Bank, not so worried about that to be honest... The password used their is just an extra step, on my second bank account (different bank) I don't even have a password... Quote

Yeah I have one password that i use for things I dont rlly care about it. and it said 2 seconds haha, but that doesn't matter b/c those things dont have any of my real info on it anyways. my destkop password would take also around 4000 years. Jefke Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I would have liked some information about how the made the calculation though... Do they use cpu or gpu, and stuff like that. Wondering what a single desktop means ^^ Quote
Kat0n Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Between 52s and 345 thousands years depending of the password. Quote
Ajreag Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 my password that I use for everything would need 300 thousand years Quote

Wondering what a single desktop means ^^ I was wondering the same thing. I'm assuming that they are talking about the best desktop computer you could get today and that it is just one single desktop (not combined computers) haha, my password for f|a forum is safer as my ebay and paypal password FA >> paypal anyways Quote
parrot Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 The password I use for anything I want secure is tredecillion years. My "this is annnoying shit" password is 10 days. I use variants on the same theme for all sites, each unique. I hate my bank though, their limit is 8 characters for any password. WTF? Quote
Antichrist Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 412 years for mine. I'm fairly certain I'll be dead by then, so that's good enough for me Quote

Leader RedBaird Posted December 21, 2012 Leader Posted December 21, 2012 Aren't you guys breaking the first rule of security and giving your passwords to a third party? 1 Quote
Jefke Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Aren't you guys breaking the first rule of security and giving your passwords to a third party? Nope, I didn't There is a reason all my passwords got the same time to 'guess' but still are unique ^^ 1 Quote
