hi guys just to let you know the cod 4 hc is running at 999 ping again.

hope it gets sorted soon.

p.s lets have some of you back on it, its been dead for ages.

Posted

Is this for Abnerdog or Beginner's? There are several HC servers. Thanks :)

Posted

Okay. I wasn't sure because I thought it could have been beginners. Last night the server was really laggy for people and they had relatively higher pings then the usual. So I thought it might have been, but can't check cuz I'm at work. :(

Posted

And Beginners tends to be active. haha

Also 1984 does only play on Abnerdog. If you didn't know, you don't come often enough on Abnerdog.

I can't. It always crashes for me due to the iw3mp.exe error. I have tried fixing it, but nothing works. And it only happens on 1.6.

Anyway, yeah. It has been stuck on 999 and is causing quite a bit more lag for me than i should have. Hope it's fixed soon.

cod4b.pngResolving your COD 4 / IW3MP.exe Error & Crashing Issues

=F|A='s FRAGWIRE made a very fine tutorial on this = http://fearless-assa...topped-working/ ,

- however some may need a more detailed and visual aid in getting the issues resolved. -

Call Of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare (COD4) runs well in the single player game option, however, there may sometimes be problems when you switch to the multiplayer mode. So just what is iw3mp.exe anyways ? Well it’s the executable file for running COD4 Modern Warfare, iw = InfinityWard, 3 = 3rd InfinityWard release in the COD franchise, mp = Multi-Player, exe = windows executable file extension. A lot of you are getting some form of this pop-up …

Iw3mp.png

There are issues running CoD 4 multiplayer with some integrated / onboard sound cards, and often the SIMPLE fix is to ascertain your computer model and look for a sound card driver update. Some soundcards need additional instructions and setting the sound tool is done by enabling Stereo Mix. In addition, a USB microphone plugged in the system's USB port may solve the issue, and/or it is observed that while connecting a microphone jack to the sound card, a pair of headphones or RCA connectors will eliminate the problem.

Enable Stereo MIX, Windows Vista w/ RealTek onboard audio

- Start, control panel

- Hardware and Sound

- Sound

- Recording Tab

- Right Click in window, chose "Show Disabled Devices"

- "Setero MIX"appeared, Right Click and choose enable

- Recording Tab

- OK

- Start the game

audio-vista3.gif

IF that didn’t work, a more advanced repair may be needed … If you are running the game from, or video games are installed on a secondary partition on your HDD, download the latest BIOS updates for your system's motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions. Users with RealTek™ onboard sound cards and Windows® Vista should try removing their sound card drivers and allow Windows Vista to install it's default sound drivers. Please make note of the make and model of your sound card prior to removing it in order to aid in reinstallation at a later date.

To remove your sound card drivers do the following
:

- Open the control panel link from the start menu

- Check the programs and features tool to see if your sound card drivers are listed here

- If they are not open the system tool in the control panel

- Click on the device manager task on the left

- Locate your sound card in the list, it should be in the sound, video, and game controllers section

- Right-click on the video card name and select Uninstall.

Users with Sigmatel® onboard sound cards need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from www.dell.com. Please navigate from the dell homepage to support, your make and model computer, and look for a sound card update.

Also, another thing to try ... make sure that your firewall is not blocking the game when you play online. Add iw3mp.exe to your list of exceptions to allow through your Firewall.

You might need to search through your lost of programs and select iw3mp (COD4) to allow it ... also note here, be sure Punk-Buster ( 'PnkBstrA' and/or 'PnkBstrB' in the list of programs) is also allowed, PB may cause iw3mp.exe errors and issues as well.

OK none of that worked … NOW WHAT ? If these previous attempts to resolve this issue have failed, maybe it’s time to do a COMPLETE RE-INSTALLATION of your COD4 game. Here’s how to do this while saving your Player Profile data & rankings.

Be sure you have your Key Code for COD4 MW, this guide is for DVD retail copies of the game, if you have a STEAM digital copy of the game, your info should be stored in the STEAM CLOUD.

call-of-duty-4-cd-key.jpg

You will need to locate your PLAYER PROFILE on your computer and save a COPY of it to transfer over into your NEW CLEAN INSTALLATION at a later time. Your Player Profile file is mpdata (or Multi-Player Data File) and is usually stored in one of a couple locations, depending upon your Operating System (Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7) and UAC (UserAccountControl) settings.

What you need to do is copy your mpdata file in order to back up your profile but the location changes depending on what OS your running so...

Windows XP:

C:\Program Files\Activision\players\profiles\(your profile name) or %programfiles%\Activision\players\profiles

Windows Vista/Win7 x86:

With UAC Disabled:

C:\Program Files\Activision\players\profiles\(your profile name) or %programfiles%\Activision\players\profiles

With UAC Enabled:

C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

or %localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

Windows Vista/Win7 x64:

With UAC Disabled:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\players\profiles\(your profile name) or %programfiles(x86)%\Activision\players\profiles

With UAC Enabled:

C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

or %localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

Another option is in your address bar, type this in: %localappdata%\virtualstore\program files\activision\call of duty 4 - modern warefare\players\profiles\

If you cannot view it, it may be hidden. To enable/see hidden files:

  • On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

To access Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

COD4cfgfiles.png

You should save 3 files, to carry over ALL of your Single-Player (sp) and Multi-Player (mp) data …

… config.cfg (sp), config_mp.cfg (mp) and mpdata . Then make sure these files are on like a flash drive, an external HDD, or something this way if you ever need to reinstall you'll still have it. You can also email it to yourself as an attachment, then if you ever need to restore it just copy it back into whatever folder you got it out of. Config files can be changed from vista to xp and vice versa.

Now let’s get rid of the old version of COD4 that is giving you issue’s …

RevoUn-InstallerCOD4.png

I recommend using revo-uninstaller for the most complete and thorough way to remove unwanted applications of your computer, IMO it is much better than simply trying to “uninstall” using the Windows default Control Panel tool, and even the programs own uninstall tool, it removes items that are often left behind like dll’s, temp files, folder files, etc. It can be downloaded here … http://www.revounins...e_download.html I use the FREEware version of the program, the PAID PRO version might be more compete yet, but I’ve never ran into an issue just using the Free version.

revo_uninstaller_mode.png

It’s also important because sometimes the programs self-uninstaller /or Windows Control Panel uninstaller won’t remove a registry file entry, thus when you try to re-install the program a corrupt registry file may still be apart of the supposed fresh install … REVO Un-Installer will eliminate this from happening if you chose one of it’s Safe/Moderate/Advanced modes … to ease your mind, it asks you about deleting registry files before it actually does it, and it creates a restore point so you can reverse your choice afterwards should for some reason you system has an issue after you try to uninstall a program.

NOW that everything has been cleaned and removed ... let's REBUILD IT again from scratch.

- Install COD4 off your CD/DVD and enter your KEY CODE when requested

- Be sure to check and download UPDATES for the game as needed / required

- COPY over your SAVED Player Profile into the same Windows directory as before ... you may need to re-create your player profile (name) folder.

======================

I may edit to add more, or add additional PICS ... hope this helps some people resolve this issue.

Yeah we have tutorials for what was just placed above: Like this one

Yes I know and I referenced THAT tutorial in my post if you notice ... FRAGWIRE did a fine job.

IF I was wrong to put this in the thread I apologize, but thought I'd try to add some visual aides to it and help people who are having the iw3mp.exe error,

as it seems like A LOT of people are ... and the previous advice on fixing it doesn't seem to be helping them.

Can we add LA's to the tutorials since it does have all the screen shots?

Or maybe LA you can submit it as a tutorial for easy reference for when I'll need this again in the future I am sure.

Thanks for the info.

I think for purpose of making this easier in the future to find, would one of the leaders please take what is off topic and post in a new thread or do as Snake suggested?

Only reason I hadn't YET ... was that it was still a work in progress ... soulJAHmon had been in need of some help fixing the issue, so I had PM'd him that ... when I saw midnight saw he had the saw issue I thought I'd try to help him too, that's all.

I will continue to work on it and clean it up so hopefully people with the iw3mp.exe error can get it resolved once and for all and get back to enjoying COD4.
