brauning Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Primavily I wanna to say, I don't afraid and I don't believe it, but still wanna share some funny pictures . Quote
DFighter Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Don't joke about it, we're all going to die !!! It's just a matter of time but anyway the latest maya calender found goes another 7000 year further so nothing to worry lol Quote
Rabidraccoon Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 My calendar from last year ended and nothing happened. So I bought a new one. I'll see what happens at the end of 2012. As long as they keep printing new ones, I know we'll be ok. Quote
beedub Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 So if you want the world to end you just don't buy a calendar? How do you stay so humble with all of that power? You are my idol. 1 Quote
Ghostwind Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 The Mayan Doomsday prediction has been debunked for a while. They never mention this happening. Ever. The final nail in the coffin was recently finding a calendar that extends beyond this year. http://kdvr.com/2012/05/13/whew-recently-discovered-mayan-calendar-goes-beyond-december-2012/ 1 Quote
Midnight Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 But how can one be sure that the interpretations that they have made for any of the Mayan hieroglyphics are true? With out the Mayans around to ask if a certain symbol means something, we are just pulling strings and guessing what we think that it means. Plus with at Western approach or new world approach (I am not familiar as to who found the new calendar) we are interpreting it as such so that it makes sense to us. The calendar could have meant something entirely different and have a different symbolic denotation, but we interpret it to our liking and so that it is feasible for us to understand. Quote
Rabidraccoon Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 That has always been an issue for leaving information for future generations. Do you write a book? Can't be on paper (only lasts a few hundred years)-maybe etch it on metal. Then you have to assume they can find it. When they find it, can they read it? Maybe in a few hundred years the answer would be yes. Go to a thousand years and the answer would probably be no. They may be able to get the basic idea of the writing but not the subtle meanings of the language. That assumes that we continue with our civilization as it is and advances without break. No major catastrophe to set us back to the dark ages for a few hundred years. The majority of people on Earth are users and have no idea how anything works. We can go to the dollar store and buy an FM radio. It just works and costs a buck. You shut down the power to the world for a week and there would be mass chaos and we would be months getting things back to normal. Go a year, and I would guess we'd get knocked back a few decades or more. Quote
Achiyan Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 if you guys didnt know (seriously), the Mayan calendar was based on a 'age' system. Dec 21, 2012 is just the bottom-most point of the Dark Age (aka the Dumb Age). after that, the circle starts rising again. This isnt the first dark age btw, there have been many before. Quote
beedub Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I say we just all go with Raccoon's method and just keep buying calendars, then the world will never end. Thanks for saving us all Raccoon. Quote
