Can someone help me improve my config & aiming

Hey I copied this from Blade in the share config sticky. made some changes and so far so good. But I'm still getting owned to often lolz. i just started a week ago after not playing for a few years. great server btw only one I play on =)

 

Playing with 43 FPS. My computer is not very good, so it does bounce to the lower 30's sometimes which sucks. I want a stable 43.

With your PC I would suggest to get maus' cfg.

Btw , I'm not sure about this but when I had a crappy pc , I used to get better performance when running in 1024x768

I would say just lower everything you can to squeeze as many frames out as you can. Like resolution for example. Maybe try going down to 640 by 480 and see if you notice a slight improvement. You could also lower the texture/colorbits. Maybe put them down to 16 or lower if you want. Picmip can go up to 3. Sorry. not too helpful I know. :( Maybe consult with some other people if you don't see any results.

Okay if you lowering down your resolution to 640 by 480 you can have a smooth frame and faster runnnig which would help you to improve your aiming and taking actions. this is the only thing i know but i hope its gonna help you

record a short demo when you play, and you have fps issues.

 

then replay it with /timedemo 1, it will play it as fast as possible and tell you your average fps, then you can change some parameters to see if there is an actual improvement in fps. Don't change cvars randomly and don't change many things all at once.

 

Here are some things you can improve in your config,

 

you have:

cl_maxpackets 300 (300 cannot be used in et, set to 100)

r_dlightbacks 1 (set to 0)

r_dynamiclight 1 (set to 0 as well, it's faster)

r_lodbias 2 (set to 10 or more)

r_picmip 2 (you can try 3)

 

you should also reduce your chat height and the number of popups

Also you can change

r_textureMode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST"

to

r_textureMode "GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_NEAREST"

 

It makes your graphics 'square'.

 

To reduce your chat and popup heights, add these to your config and save it(ofc remember to execute it again in game):

 

cg_teamchatheight (use some low value, for example 3)

b_numpopups (b_ is for etpro, might still work, use some low value, for example 5)

 

And as for aiming in general, read this carefully through, apply some things, read again/more etc:

Also set r_simpleMipMaps "1" to 0, it will probably give you a lil more fps

 

set com_hunkmegs to 196

 

if you have ATI/or Nvidia Control Panel set everything in there off

 

like threaded optimization off

 

texture filtering off

 

trilinear optimization off

 

vertical sync off

 

 

another thing you can try is to set your game to compatibility mode

 

right-click on Wolf + click properties - then click on compatibility mode, pick from the dropbox then check the small box

yes but I remember in some old pc certain r_textureMode values are slower, so he should check if he has the same fps or not

 

I don't remember the jaymod var for popup number, but I think you can change it from the menu

hmm, I don't think so. Already from the cvar name 'simple' mipmaps you can guess that it's faster if you set it to 1

Some ideas:

 

Use 1024x768, usually gets better frame rate than lower res ones

 

seta forcefps "43" -> 70

cl_maxpackets "300" ->30

seta rate "25000" -> 45000

Just use 100, since if you have broadband internet connection, you should be using 100. Well, if you still have dial-up modem, then 30 might be better... :P

Test and see... some servers with high ping (over 100) I hit better with 30. I have 15mb ADSL connection...

That is probably because they can't follow you well when you strafe. With low maxpackets in some occasions you will just teleport from 1 place to the other side of the room, and that is of course hard to follow for your opponents...

 

They won't hit you very well, so you'll have less screenshakes and less knockback -> you will hit (a bit) better

 

but it's not entirely fair...

 

edit:

anyway he gets 43 fps so he won't generate more than 43 commands /second, he will never move as smoothly as one with 100fps / 100 packets anyway
