I second the Ry Cooder vote but lets not forget it is not only technical prowess but warmth, feeling and restraint.

Oh, these guys were great. I shared a house with the base player in my younger days and had lunch with Hughie a month before he died of a heart attack... one of the greatest guitar jams of all time... multiple leads back and forth. Really gets hot after 5.0

well of course I think ppl are in awe if some guy can play 128th notes at 100000bpm, but they are also supposed to play music that makes sense, and maybe have a distinctive sound and style.

And that is also a talent.

now for some fast playing :D

I only had 20 options haha or I wouldve put more. Eric Johnson is a phenomenal player! Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...sick. I knew that's who that was in the posts with victor wooten just forgot his name. Jason Becker. Killer. Almost no one knows who he is. The oriental guy from String Cheese Incident. Charlie Hunter Trio. Fareed haque. They are endless. One born everyday!!!

I can't believe no one voted for me hahaha

0 votes for Me, Jerry Garcia, Chuck Shuldner, and Mastodon boys??? Hahaha

I think nobody can beat Jimmy Hendrix as the best. Personally I think Rory Gallagher is a close second (great songs and he's irish!) and Eric Clapton right behind. This debate though could go on and will go on for years with people asking the same question and the majority will say JH or will say he's one of the best anyway!

Oh so many brilliant axe men..My personal fav top 10 would be:

1. Marty Friedman

2 Dave Mustaine

3. Nuno Bettencourt

4. Eddie V.H

5. Dime Bag (R.I.P)

6. Hendrix

7. Jimmy Page

8. Jeff Beck

9. Tommy Emmanuel

10. Leo Kotke

Each to they're own, I would never say one is better than the other or better than other peoples choices, Quite different styles so....Most are pretty old school but still rockin!

Dime is the $H!T! Its hard to choose from sooo many great guitar players, but Dime has to be my favorite.
